Last week, our Prep students participated in a special in-school visit from St. John Ambulance. During the session, they learned the importance of knowing when and how to call 000 in an emergency. The students also enjoyed a read-aloud story that empowered them to become lifesaving "superheroes" in their own way. We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful stories they shared about times they've helped others their compassion and courage truly shone through!
This term, the Year 1s have been learning about past, present and future in Humanities. Last week, we wrote messages about life in the present and the things that are important to us. We put all the messages into a time capsule and worked as a cohort to bury this in the school. In the future, we are excited to dig up the time capsule to see what was important to us today.
This term, our Year 2 students have been busy exploring the fascinating world of insects in English. We’ve read a range of engaging stories and learnt how to combine factual information with creative storytelling to create an informational narrative. Each child chose an insect to research, then planned, edited, and published their very own informational narrative. The results are impressive – filled with fun facts, vivid descriptions, and imaginative twists! We’re so proud of their hard work and growing writing skills.
Last week, Year 3 students took part in swimming lessons at MSAC. We were incredibly proud of the respect they showed to the wider community on the tram and during their lessons. The swimming instructors commented on how polite the Year 3 students were and the effort they displayed in all of their lessons. Thursday was a highlight of the week for many, as students took part in Water Safety Day where they learnt valuable skills in water safety.
Our Grade 4 students had a fantastic time participating in swimming lessons at MSAC last week. From the moment we left school, the students impressed us with their independence by organizing their belongings, getting changed efficiently, and taking responsibility for their things. The Grade 4 students were respectful and well-mannered while travelling on the tram each day and, at the pool, students embraced the opportunity to learn and practise new swimming skills, with many pushing themselves out of their comfort zones!
Our Year 5 students have had an exciting and enriching Term 2! They immersed themselves in two captivating novels, Tom's Midnight Garden and The Girl Who Speaks Bear, exploring themes of adventure, identity, and time. In Geography, students journeyed across the globe as they learnt about the world’s most famous mountains, deepening their understanding of physical geography. Next week, we are finishing the term off strong with our Endangered Animals Expo. The Year 5 students will showcase their research, creativity, and passion for protecting wildlife to the wider school community. Their knowledge was increased by their visit to Melbourne Zoo earlier in the term. It’s been a term full of learning, discovery, and inspiration and the Year 5 teachers are very proud of all their students! Take a look at some pictures from across the term:
Last week the Year 6 students represented their school and families beautifully while on the tram and at MSAC for Swimming Lessons. Students did their best and tried hard, even when it was challenging. They learned new skills including a variety of swimming strokes as well as how to be safe around water. Students even got to go in the pool with clothes on to practise rescues. We loved spending our mornings at the pool!
