Principal's Message

Dear Tarrawanna Community,

As we approach the end of a busy and successful Term 1, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements, learning, and special moments we have shared over the past ten weeks. It has been a pleasure to see so many smiling faces engaged in learning, growth, and creativity across our school.

This term, our students have been focusing on developing multiplicative strategies in Maths, and I have been so impressed by the creativity and determination they have shown in tackling new challenges. Their growth and enthusiasm for learning have been truly inspiring.

We have also celebrated many other wonderful achievements, including:

  • Swimming Carnival: A big congratulations to Hugo for making it to the South Coast to represent our school. What an incredible accomplishment!
  • Welcoming our new Kindergarten Students: It has been a joy to see them settle in so well and begin their learning journey with enthusiasm and positivity.
  • Operation Art Award: Congratulations to Aria, whose artwork has been selected for exhibition at the Gallery of NSW. Her work will be on display in Bowral from next Sunday, and I look forward to attending the launch to celebrate her success.
  • NSW Space Discovery Program: Our Stage 3 students have embarked on an exciting journey of discovery through the NSW Space Discovery Program.
  • Deadly in Generation STEM Program: Kindergarten to Year 2 students are beginning this fantastic program, interweaving scientific curiosity with Aboriginal culture and history.
  • AFL Dragons Sports Program: Students have been thoroughly enjoying this sports program, and we’ve received wonderful feedback.
  • High Potential & Gifted Education Opportunities: This term, we introduced new programs including a South Coast Knockout Competition soccer team, a debating team, and a choir performing at local events such as the ANZAC dawn service.
  • Cool Kids Music Program: We are excited to welcome Cool Kids Music, providing after-school music tuition starting in Term 2, offering another way for our students to express their creativity.

Our students’ artistic talents are also proudly on display with new artwork featured on the school fence, with more projects on the way. Our commitment to celebrating success through our end-of-term assemblies will continue, and I thank our parents for their prompt responses to absence messages—your support truly makes a difference.

At our term 1 assembly last week, celebrated our outstanding student leaders who are role models for others, demonstrating our school values of Respect, Connect, and Grow through their support of various programs and their leadership across the school. I would also like to acknowledge our new library monitors who have been doing a wonderful job assisting each Wednesday.

As we approach the final week of term, we have many exciting activities planned, including:

  • A soccer game against Balgownie on Monday.
  • Harmony Day on Tuesday—please wear orange! We will also enjoy a performance from the Illawarra South East Regional Performing Ensemble.
  • Stage 3 Leadership Day on Wednesday.
  • ANZAC Ceremony on Thursday.
  • Our joyful Easter Hat Parade on Friday, the last day of term.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Tarrawanna community. Your support, encouragement, and involvement are truly valued, and we couldn’t do it without you. You are such an important part of our school family, and we are so grateful for all you do.

I wish everyone a wonderful and restful break, and I look forward to welcoming you back for more learning, growth, and success in Term 2.

Warm regards,

Mr Chris Hopkins
