On Friday, November 15th, our year six students engaged in a Spirituality Day at St. Joseph's Spirituality Centre. This day was designed to celebrate and reflect on their journey at St Margaret Mary’s as well as prepare the students for the transition to high school.
The students delved into the scripture of David and Goliath, reflecting on themes
of faith, courage, bravery, and just cause. This exploration helped them understand the importance of these virtues as they prepare for new challenges ahead. Through guided reflection, prayer, group discussions and adoration, students were encouraged to make connections to their own lives and to look at the attributes, support and talents they have to overcome challenges.
The day was enriched by the presence of Mrs Emma Jennings, the school counsellor, who led discussions on various aspects of transitioning to high school. Emma engaged the students in interactive scenarios and group activities focused on essential strategies for making friends, managing transportation and navigating other changes associated with
moving to high school. This hands-on approach allowed students to express their concerns and share experiences, fostering a supportive environment for discussion.
The Year 6 teachers facilitated a variety of reflection activities aimed at celebrating the students' journey at St. Margaret Mary’s. They encouraged students to think about the people and events that have impacted them during their time at the school, creating a space for gratitude and reminiscence. The children gained an appreciation of what they will take with them in their ‘backpack’ as they leave St Margaret Mary’s. Finally, some team-building games were incorporated to strengthen bonds among classmates, enhancing their sense of community.
Overall, the day was fulfilling and enjoyable. The children actively participated in all activities with optimism and enthusiasm, demonstrating their readiness for the next
chapter in their educational journey. The combination of spiritual reflection, practical advice from Mrs Emma Jennings, and collaborative activities made this Spirituality Day a memorable experience for us all.
God Bless
