Chemical Science
CURRICULUM FOCUS
We are learning about Chemical Science.
- I can use my senses to observe, explore and answer questions.
- I can communicate observations and predictions with others.
- I can compare observations and predictions with others
VOCABULARY
Chemical Science: the study of substances and how they change.
Substances: the physical things that can be seen, touched or measured.
Observations: the action of knowing something and recording it down.
Predictions: thinking about what is going to happen next.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Students at home can use ice cubes to find out about the effect of heat and cold on substances.
Take some ice cubes and then put them in a kettle or a pot to heat (under adult supervision).
Observe and predict what will happen next.
They predict: what will happen if we keep heating the pot?
Students can then investigate what has caused the change in the shape of the ice cubes.
Lastly, Ask can they get their ice cubes back again? How would you do it?
