Old Scholar Making a Difference - Julian at Parliament House

At Good Shepherd Lutheran School, we are immensely proud of the achievements of our old scholars, and Julian is a shining example of the enduring impact of our school values.

Julian graduated in 2023 and was awarded the Spirit of Good Shepherd award, a recognition of his character, leadership, and commitment to serving others. While at Good Shepherd, Julian organised a memorable Step Challenge, where staff and students completed laps of the oval to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and as a school we raised $1,003.15. This initiative was driven by a group of Stage 4 students who wanted to show our school value of ‘Love’ by supporting Julian, who lives with Type 1 Diabetes.

Since his graduation, Julian has continued his advocacy work with JDRF. Last week, alongside his father, Damian (a member of the Good Shepherd school board), Julian travelled to Canberra as JDRF’s advocate for the Makin electorate. There, he met with politicians, attended Question Time, and even shared lunch with them in the Great Hall of Parliament House.

During this visit, Julian and his fellow advocates celebrated a significant milestone: the government announced an additional $50 million in funding for JDRF’s Clinical Research Network. This bipartisan support is a vital step forward in the search for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

We commend Julian for his unwavering dedication and for continuing to embody the spirit of Good Shepherd. He is an inspiration to our community and a reminder of the lasting impact of living out our school values.

Coffee and Connect

Just a reminder that we won’t be gathering for Coffee and Connect tomorrow (Friday) in the church café... However, you might like to invite a friend to a nearby café or playground and enjoy catching up there instead! Love to see you next Tuesday after our Closing Worship for an opportunity have a chat over a cuppa.

Thank you to everyone who has come along this year. It has been lovely to have a space where people are free to share their joys and challenges with others, in a safe and supportive environment. I look forward to gathering with you again next year over a cuppa as we welcome new friends in 2025.

God bless you all.
