Wellbeing Team News
OUR UPCOMING CAMPAIGN - 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM 2024!
HPSC's Wellbeing is wrapping up the year of whole-school events and celebrations by commemorating the important international campaign, 16 Days of Activism - spreading awareness and advocacy about respectful relationships, in hopes to end gender-based violence. We're bringing the message to the school community through a variety of lunchtime activities, mentor activities, and whole-school celebrations, over the 16 Days between November 25th and December 10th. We're kicking off with a huge March on the campaign's first day, at lunchtime on November 26th - we're hoping we'll have hundreds join in for the fun and make some noise! Student sign-ups are still open - we'll see you there!
GIRLS EMPOWERED IS IN ITS FOURTH TERM STRAIGHT!
This year's launch of the Girls Empowered program has been incredible, and has impacted over 50 Year 7 and 8s, running each term in 2024! Students learned important skills around healthy relationships, resilience, friendships, self-care, and more. Hailey, Tess, and Kaye have done incredible work in getting the program off the ground and bringing these important lessons to many of our junior students this year. We're excited to see the ongoing impact to come from it in 2025!
STUDENT BROADBAND INITIATIVE APPLICATIONS ENDING SOON!
The State Government's Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) offers families without access to the internet a chance to secure a funded internet-subscription; helping them access the internet from home throughout the remainder of this year, into 2025! Spots are subject to eligibility, and applications can be submitted to the school's Wellbeing Team for review - but be quick, as applications close at the end of 2024! THANK YOU TO MELBOURNE CITY!
Melbourne City Football Club came into HPSC to run their Man-Up Program for some of our Year 7s and 8s, educating around respectful relationships, leadership and resilience, teamwork and cooperation, and emotional regulation. We loved working with them to support our juniors in the development of health masculinities, important skills (and goal-shooting technique) early on in their life, and we know our students enjoyed the chance to learn personal and sporting skills from the best! Thanks again to Izzy and Jacob for coming out and connecting with our students for this great program!
A BIG YEAR FOR BREAKFAST CLUB
Over the year, the Wellbeing Team brought moved into our new home in the Wellness Centre and had our Breakfast Club switch from 3 to 5 days a week! Over the year, we've served over 3,000 meals to our students, making sure they had the best opportunity for focus and engagement in classes, excursions, Rugby Academy practice, and whatever their day held at HPSC! We're thankful to all the staff and volunteers over the year who have put in countless hours to make the program great and feed students every day; along with our supplies and supporters, including Foodbank, Eat-Up, Bakers Delight, and Kellogg's - who all have generously provided us with nutritious food to use throughout the year!
A BIG NIGHT AT THE VICTORIAN EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Wellbeing Team, along with Yr7-9 Freeman House SLL Alison Fiddes, were proud to represent HPSC as finalists in the annual Victorian Education Excellence Awards; and were Runner-Ups in their respective categories for Outstanding Education Support Team and Outstanding Early Career Secondary Teacher, respectively. It was a great night enjoyed by all, and we felt privileged to represent our college and the whole school community proudly.
