Principal's Report

Dear Parents/carers, students and staff,

The weeks are flying by. As we step into this final stretch of the year, we find ourselves with much to reflect on and celebrate. This term holds a special significance for our Year 12 students as they prepare to close the chapter on 13 years of formal education.

Year 12 Final Assembly: A Celebration of Dedication and Achievement

Our Year 12 Final Assembly was a memorable occasion, marked by a mix of emotions as students and staff gathered to honour the journey of our graduating class. Our graduating class of 2024 have embodied our core values of Respect, Learning, and Working Together during their end-of-year celebrations. They have set a positive example for younger students.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Kios and Ms. Glenn for their dedicated leadership in supporting our Year 12 students during this important—and often intense—final term. Their guidance has been instrumental in helping students navigate these last moments of secondary education with respect and confidence. I also extend my gratitude to Ms. Krieg, who stepped in as Acting Principal on the day of the assembly. Unfortunately, I was committed to assisting another secondary college with their School Review and could not be present, but it is always comforting to know that I leave the college is very capable hands.

VCE Exams Underway

Our Year 12 VCE students have now commenced their exams, a culmination of their hard work and preparation. With a strong understanding of exam protocols, they are managing this period with impressive cooperation and efficiency. We are incredibly proud of their diligence and the positive attitude they bring to this final challenge.

Looking Ahead

With Year 12 exams underway and other classes entering a busy assessment period, I encourage all students to maintain their focus and continue striving for their best. Exams for other Year 10 and 11 students will commence next week, Monday 11th November until Friday 15th November. Sound preparation is always the key. Best wishes to all students.

Our Commencement Program for 2025 starts at the beginning of Week 8, Monday 25th November for two weeks. This program provides the opportunity for students to meet their class members and to start their 2025 subjects.

I am excited to announce the next year we have a School Production.  Bring It On! Has been selected. Auditions for casting will be commencing soon. Watch this space.

I am delighted to share that our refurbished building “Mabo House” will be officially handed over soon, following year long build. I must say, what an impressive building it is! This building comprises a House Office, 6 general purpose classrooms and an exhibition/meeting space.  These new spaces will be available from the start of 2025, following the delivery of new furniture in January.

Spirit of Anzac Award

Mahdia From Year 10, recently returned to from her Spirit of Anzac study tour to Gallipoli. This week, Mahida made a presentation to School Council members sharing stories of her adventures. Mahida, we are very proud of your achievements and for representing our college.

Winners are Grinners!

Recently, our HPSC Rugby Academy student competed in a Rugby tournament in Bendigo. I am happy to share that our Under 18 boys were crowned Tournament Winners, while our Under 16 boys came 3rd. Congratulations to all and well done to Ms Erin Louden, Mr Shay Illangakoon and to Ms Amy Barton for their leadership and encouragement of the boys.

I am happy to report that we have signed a new partnership with Melbourne Victory to launch our Soccer Academy Program. We are looking forward to these new exciting program opportunities for our students.

HP Team make VEX Robotics Nationals

I am excited to announce that our Robotics team who have been working hard and progressing very well throughout the year have made it through to the Nationals.  The National VEX Robotics competition will be held in Sydney later in the month. We are extremely proud of the team and wish to acknowledge Teacher Mr Russell Beveridge and Ms Christen Barnard Education Support for their wonderful support, guidance and encouragement.

HP’s first Colour Run

Recently, we held our inaugural Colour Run. Thanks to Erin Louden, Amy Barton and the Vocational Major staff and students for organising this event. I am expecting this event will continue to grow over the next few years.

Safety around Traffic

All students are reminded to use the footpaths when arriving and departing the school grounds. Students are reminded to keep clear of cars in the staff car park. This is not only a safety issue by helps to avoid any potential risk of damage to vehicles.

Gymbuya World

As part of the end of year celebrations, students in Year 7-9 have the opportunity to spend a day at Gumbuya World.   This event has been heavily subsidised by the college. We always work hard to provide opportunities for students to expand their experiences and help to reduce any financial barriers.

Thank you for supporting our learning community, as we strive to improve opportunities and outcomes for our students.
