Student Wellbeing
CELEBRATING DIVERSITY AND STANDING UP AGAINST RACISM
At Greenhills, we believe that every child brings something unique to our community. Our school values and respects diversity, knowing it strengthens our sense of connection and belonging. When children see the world through the lens of kindness, respect, and understanding, they become thoughtful citizens ready to make a positive difference.
We want all our students to feel safe and respected. To achieve this, we teach our students the importance of celebrating differences, be it culture, language, appearance, or beliefs. These lessons are an integral part of our school environment, helping students to build empathy and understanding of the harmful effects of racism and discrimination.
Standing up to racism begins with understanding it. We teach students to notice hurtful behaviour and empower them to act by speaking up, showing kindness, or seeking help from an adult when needed. Together, we aim to foster a community that celebrates differences.
Today, we had a wonderful incursion for our Prep to Year 4 students celebrating the diversity of cultures in our school community. Tomorrow, our Year 5 students are participating in activities to explore and appreciate the range of cultures that make Melbourne special. These events provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that deepen our understanding and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds that enrich our community.
Parents, we encourage you to talk with your child about what makes each of us unique and special, and to explore ways they can be an ally in creating a welcoming school community. By working together, we can help our students become advocates of inclusivity, kindness, and respect.
