Secondary News
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are well and truly into a busy Term 4.
The College began our week this week on November 11th, joining together for our annual Remembrance Day service. Every year on this day, our College community joins together to pause and remember the sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians alike during times of war. Remembrance Day is a solemn occasion to honour the courage, commitment and resilience of those who fought and died in the service of their country, with a beautiful wreath of flowers which we lay at our flag pole after our service. Many of the men and women we pay our respects to are loved ones and family members of College staff and students. We thank our student leaders who ran this service beautifully.
The Arts Festival is this evening between 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm. This is a wonderful event that showcases student work from Art, Digitech, Media and Foodtech for the year. There will also be musical performances from students who participate in the instrumental program. All family and friends are invited to attend. BYO food and picnic blanket. Thank you to all the FAME faculty who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event possible.
A reminder that the Year 7-9 students have The Gumbuya World excursion on Monday 2nd December. Please ensure you have accepted or declined the event ASAP, so we know how many are coming. The students have been asked to submit the lunch option form by Tuesday 19th November. The College is paying for the students’ lunches.

The Physics of moving without friction
The Australian curriculum, followed in Years 7 – 10 Science at Lakeside, covers units in biology, chemistry, psychology and physics. Here our Year 10 science students are doing their term four physics unit and experimenting with air track carts. These float on a cushion of air, like a hovercraft, thus reducing friction to very low level when they are propelled along the air track seen above.
This device allows them to measure velocities, acceleration and forces and the relationships between those variables described in Newton’s Laws of motion. These laws are applicable to our everyday life and beyond and cover such things as human and vehicle movement, engineering, sport science and astrophysics.

Our Year 11 Biology students had an incredible experience at Melbourne Zoo !
They participated in a program that highlighted how the concepts they learn in class are applied in real-world settings at the Zoo. From exploring animal behavior to understanding conservation efforts, it was a fantastic opportunity to see biology in action!
