Mathematics and Statistics Research Competition

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Year Six students, Toby and Neel, for their exceptional participation in the University of Melbourne Mathematics and Research Competition. This prestigious event challenged our students to engage with a range of open-ended research problems, from which they skillfully selected one to investigate.

Toby and Neel demonstrated remarkable aptitude as they employed various methodologies similar to those utilised by professional mathematical researchers. Their process involved gathering and analysing data, simplifying complex problems, visualising concepts, formulating hypotheses, conjecturing and rigorously proving their solutions. This competition served as an excellent platform for our students to harness their creativity and critical problem-solving abilities, allowing them to make informed decisions on how to approach and resolve their chosen research project.

Furthermore, teamwork emerged as a vital element of the competition, with our students collaborating to enhance their reasoning and collective skills. We commend Toby and Neel for their commitment and teamwork, which significantly enriched their experience. Congratulations once again to Neel and Toby for their impressive achievement!

Prep Transition

We are pleased to share an update on our 2025 Prep Orientation Program, which has been a significant focus for our dedicated Prep Team. Over the past three Thursdays, we have had the pleasure of welcoming our future Lakeside Preps to school. The team has been actively visiting local kindergartens to connect with our incoming students, fostering a sense of familiarity and comfort as they prepare for their transition to primary school.

This initiative aims to ease the shift to 'school life' and instil excitement about the learning journey ahead. The interactions have been instrumental in helping our Preps build valuable relationships with their teachers and peers, laying a strong foundation for their success in the upcoming year and beyond.

It has been truly heartening to witness the enthusiasm of our new Lakeside students. We extend our gratitude to our Prep and Student Services Teams for their tireless efforts in making this program a success.

Whole-School Transition

Next week, on Thursday, November 21st, we are pleased to announce that our school will be hosting a whole-school transition day. This important event provides our students with the opportunity to visit their new classrooms and meet their classroom teachers for the upcoming year. We recognise that while this day is filled with excitement, it may also evoke feelings of apprehension for some students as they prepare for the transition.

At our school, we firmly believe in the significance of this opportunity to foster relationships and establish a positive foundation for the year ahead. The transition day is designed to alleviate any concerns and to help students build positivity and enthusiasm toward their new learning environments and programs.

Australian Lutheran World Service - Gifts of Grace

One key initiative in support of Australian Lutheran World Service is our Year 6 students’ "What’s My Business" project, occurring in Week 8 and 9. All proceeds are donated to ALWS through their Gifts of Grace Program. We encourage our community to consider supporting this worthy organisation by purchasing a Gift of Grace from the catalogue that will be provided to students. Alternatively, contributions can be made through the website: Gifts of Grace.

The Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) plays a vital role in responding to communities in crisis through the provision of essential aid. As the aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand, ALWS works in partnership with the Lutheran World Federation to ensure a comprehensive response to humanitarian needs.

ALWS engages in long-term development partnerships and is committed to addressing protracted crises through humanitarian efforts that also include rapid emergency responses. Central to their mission is an emphasis on dignity and agency, empowering communities to build inclusive and sustainable practices that are driven by local needs. In delivering aid, ALWS is sensitive to the unique contexts and requirements of the communities they serve, consistently upholding human rights standards.

Lakeside College shares ALWS’s commitment to supporting equitable and inclusive global practices, and we are dedicated to furthering their mission. Our Service Learning opportunities are anchored by our core values of love, service, excellence and compassion, which guide our ongoing support for ALWS across the College.

We thank you in advance for your generous support and grace.
