NAIDOC Celebration
On Thursday, Tammy (our Koorie Engagement Support Officer), worked closely with Dyllen (student) and Sarah (staff member) to offer the school a belated, yet engaging NAIDOC celebration day. Students in Years 7 to 10 attended a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, then rotated through activities that included art, Johnny Cake making, story telling, looking at artefacts and playing games.
Students could paint their faces with traditional markings. Their meanings are as follows:
Forehead - strong mind.
Cheeks - connection to ancestors.
Chin / mouth - speak your personal truth.
Fabulous Fast Food
Students were challenged with the task to make Meatballs in their cooking elective last week. Their food tasted delicious, despite mixed success with the meatballs holding their shape.
Focus on Food
The usual debate continued to rage while students embarked on the mission to make Pizza Scrolls in this cooking elective. Does pineapple go on Pizza? Some say yes, and some are a firm no! Either way, these smelled delicious while cooking, came out looking pretty good, and were tasty too.
