KESAB Incursion

On Wednesday 19th August students from the White, Yellow, Blue, and Green classes took part in an incursion in the school hall. We had Di Gloyn from KESAB run a recycling information session followed by a rubbish sorting exercise. Students had to decide which bin was used for each piece of waste. This formed part of our HASS work on caring for our environment and valuing our natural resources. Students got into the spirit of the sessions and often helped each other decide which bin to choose (e.g. yellow bin for ice cream containers). Perhaps students could assist with sorting recycling at home, if they are not already doing so.

Trees for Life

Trees for Life seedlings available:

In February this year the senior students began nurturing seeds from Trees for Life. They prepared tubes with soil, fertiliser, and then planted them with native tree species from the Adelaide Hills region. The three species we grew were Eucalyptus Leucoxylon (Southern Blue Gum), Eucalyptus Obliqua (Messmate Stringybark), and Eucalyptus Camaldulensis (River Red Gum). These are all very beautiful and tall (up to 50m) trees. 

We gave some trees away earlier this year for Mothers' Day and we now have 120 mature seedlings to give away and be planted as soon as possible. Keep in mind that these trees would suit people with large yards, rural bush blocks, wineries, or indeed larger farms. They are not suited to small backyards as the roots could cause cracks and potentially drop limbs. Please see the attached info leaflet regarding where to plant. 

A photo below shows some seedlings that were grown by our students and were planted 3 years ago. We have also previously planted our seedlings with students at Urrbrae Wetlands.
