Dear Families

Following the excitement and celebration of Book Week last week, it is the perfect time to reflect on the important role our library plays in the life of our school and the remarkable impact it has on our students.

Whilst space is limited here at St Patrick’s we have prioritised creating a library over the past few years. We are so fortunate to have the amazing skills, commitment and imagination of Lisa-Jayne leading this incredible space. 

This week, an article in The Advertiser highlighted concerns that some schools are no longer prioritising libraries and the important role they play in students' education. The article serves as a timely reminder of what research, educators and families have known for years which is that libraries matter.

At our school, we see firsthand the incredible impact our library has on our students. Each visit offers an opportunity to open a new world, discover a new interest, or simply experience the joy of a great story. For many of our students, books provide a pathway to communication, understanding, creativity and belonging.

Perhaps most importantly, our library nurtures curiosity. It is a place where students can explore topics that interest them, ask questions, and develop confidence as learners. The excitement we see when students choose a new book, or share a story with a friend is a powerful reminder that reading is about much more than academic achievement. It is about connection, imagination and fun.

We are fortunate to have a wonderful library that is well-loved and well-used by our students and staff. We remain committed to ensuring that our library continues to be a vibrant hub of learning, where every student can experience the wonder of books and the opportunities that reading provides.

I extend a big thank you to Lisa-Jayne for coordinating Book Week. It was fantastic to see so many students and staff in costumes and wonderful that so many families and friends attended our parade. 

This week we move on to Science Week so keep an eye on SeeSaw to see the exciting experiments and scientific experiences the students will be immersed in.
