From our Foundation Classrooms

Our Foundation students recently enjoyed a wonderful local walking excursion from Meadows Primary School to Dallas Neighbourhood House. This visit gave students the chance to explore one of our community’s most valued organisations, which provides adult education, wellbeing programs, social groups, food support, and countless opportunities for local families to connect and thrive.

Students were warmly welcomed and were especially excited to contribute to this important work by decorating bags for community use. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and they certainly made a noticeable dent in the sticker collection!

This excursion strongly supported our Geography learning, where Foundation students explore the concept of special places and why they are meaningful to people. Visiting a local community organisation helped students understand how places in their neighbourhood meet the needs of individuals and families, and how people care for and use these places.

Walking through our local streets also encouraged students to observe features of their environment, make connections to their own experiences, and recognise that they are part of a broader, vibrant community.

We are proud of the ongoing partnership between MPS and our Community Hub, led by Melissa, who continues to strengthen connections between families, services, and learning opportunities. This excursion is just one example of how we are building strong learners who are curious, community-minded, and eager to contribute.

We are excited to share that further opportunities for Foundation students to work with Dallas Neighbourhood House are planned for Term 2. We look forward to continuing to nurture students’ understanding of their community and the important role they can play within it.
