K, 1 - Miss Smith
Learning Intention: We are learning to sequence numbers and arrange them on a line by considering the order and size of those numbers.
This term, our Kindergarten and Year 1 children have been learning about numbers and how they go in order. They are learning placing numbers on a number line and thinking about which numbers come before, after, and in between. Our Year One's have also been using hands-on materials (MAB blocks) to build numbers, helping them see what numbers are made of. It’s been wonderful to watch their confidence grow as they explore numbers in fun and engaging ways.
2, 3 - Miss Bustard
Learning Intention:
We are learning to distinguish between facts and opinions so we can better identify the purpose of persuasive texts.
This week, Year 2 & 3 have become "detectives of truth" as we explore the art of persuasion. By relating persuasion to our own daily lives, we have learnt how we use these skills every day. We’ve also been:
Analysing Characters: Looking at how characters in our books use clever language to get what they want.
Classroom Debates: Refining the art of convincing one another on various topics using a mix of evidence and personal passion.
Home Challenge: Next time your child asks for something, ask them to provide one fact and one opinion to support their case. You might find their arguments are becoming much harder to resist.
4, 5 & 6 - Mr Prince
Learning Intention: We are learning to use persuasive writing to show how local actions can help solve the Great Pacific Garbage Patch crisis.
This Term, our classroom transformed into a hub of environmental activism. We’ve dove headfirst into the world of persuasive writing, using one of the most pressing issues of our time as our anchor.
We have been exploring a powerful truth: The ocean starts at our front door. Most of the plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch originates from land-based sources. A bottle tossed on a local sidewalk can travel through storm drains to rivers, and eventually, out to sea.
Our young writers are currently crafting persuasive pieces to convince our local community to reduce single-use plastics. They are learning that by changing habits here in our neighbourhood, we can literally change the composition of the ocean thousands of miles away.
