Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope you and your families enjoyed a restful and refreshing break. It has been truly wonderful to see our school filled with energy again as we come back together as a community of learners.

This term, our dedicated team of staff is focusing their efforts on Goal 3 of our Annual Improvement Plan: Improving student reading and writing. Over the coming weeks, our team of skilled adults will be working collaboratively to further align our teaching methods and assessment strategies across all grades, from Kindergarten to Year 6.

At the heart of this initiative is our fundamental belief that every child can learn and every teacher can teach, provided they are given the right time, support, and resources. By sharpening our focus on literacy, we are not just teaching skills; we are empowering our students and investing in our hope-filled future.

Staffing Updates

First, we are thrilled to welcome Miss Gemma Naylon to the St Joseph’s team as our new Aboriginal Education Assistant (AEA). Gemma is a well known member of the Mungindi community and brings a deep passion for sharing culture with our younger generations. We are very fortunate to have her expertise on staff four days a week, and we look forward to seeing the growth and impact she brings to this vital role.

It is also wonderful to welcome back Mrs Rebecca McMillan this term. After taking unexpected leave due to illness in Term 1, Rebecca returns to her roles as Inclusion Support Teacher (IST) and Release teacher.

Finally, it is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of the much loved Miss Beth Smith. Since joining us in 2024 as our K/1 teacher, Beth has been a vibrant and valued member of our school family. Her infectious passion for every child’s success and her ability to build strong, lasting relationships with children and families have left a mark on us all.

As Beth heads off on new adventures, we know she carries the St Joey’s Mungindi spirit, and whatever she does, she will do it well! Her dedication to ensuring every child achieves their best is a true reflection of our hope-filled future, and we wish her nothing but the very best.

A massive congratulations to our incredible St Joseph’s relay team—Maya, Percy, Nesha, and Annabelle—who represented Mungindi at the 2026 NSWPSSA Primary Swimming Championships. Not only did they compete against the state's best, but they also smashed their personal best time, truly embodying our school motto: “Whatever we do, we do it well.” We are incredibly proud of your dedication and sportsmanship.

As we move into May, we approach Pentecost, celebrated 50 days after Easter. This is the moment the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, giving them the courage to share Jesus’ message with the world. For this reason, we call Pentecost the birthday of the Church. For our families, this is a beautiful reminder that we are never alone. Just as the Spirit guided the first disciples, God is present in our daily lives, giving us the strength and "spark" to live out our own mission of love and kindness. This month, let’s celebrate the ways the Holy Spirit works through our children and us every day.

Have a wonderful week.
