Term 2 Library!

To all our book lovers, it’s that exciting time of year when students begin the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge. The 2026 theme is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell’. The Challenge focuses on discovery, encouraging students to explore new books and grow their love of reading. Your child may need your support to complete the Challenge, particularly if they are junior students or need encouragement to read. Reading together is one of the most effective ways to help children strengthen their literacy skills.

Students have received a printed letter outlining the VPRC, including their usernames and passwords. Please encourage your child to read regularly at home and take part in this personal reading challenge. Some children may also need your assistance to add the books they have read to their online reading list. As a school community, we hope all students will complete the Challenge and read more than ever before!

To support students and families, our school library is open from Tuesday to Friday mornings before school at 8:30 am and after school each day until 3:45 pm. Everyone is welcome to return and borrow books during these times or seek assistance with the VPRC if required. Computers are also available for students to record books on their Challenge lists.

So children, choose a book that interests you, find a quiet, relaxing spot, and let the adventures begin! The Hume Library also offers a wonderful selection of VPRC books to enjoy.

ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REGISTERED THROUGH THE SCHOOL

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 6 in recognition of the importance

of reading for literacy development.

It is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by Friday, 4th September 2026.

CHILDREN FROM PREP TO YEAR 2 ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ

OR ‘EXPERIENCE’ 30 BOOKS WITH THEIR PARENTS AND TEACHERS.
