LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome back to Term 2! It has been a fantastic start, with many students eagerly borrowing and returning books from the very first day back in the library. It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading continue into the new term.
We’re excited to share that our library shelves have welcomed a range of new additions since the holidays. These include highly-anticipated books from popular series like Dog Man and Pizza Taco, as well as books that explore celebrations from cultures around the world, such as Eid, Ramadan, Lunar New Year, and many others. Students have been especially excited to discover these stories and have enjoyed sharing their knowledge and experiences with one another during reading time.
This year marks the 26th year of the National Simultaneous Storytime event which will be celebrated in Week 6 of this term. At midday, on Wednesday, May 27th, millions of teachers, students, children and parents across the country will sit down and listen to the same story, Luna Roo. This book, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, and illustrated by Jake Minton, tells the story of a courageous Kangaroo who is chasing her football dreams across the Outback of Australia and learns some valuable lessons along the way. Guaranteed to engage our sports-loving students, Luna will also inspire students to never give up on their dreams and belief in what they are capable of.
To celebrate this event, GVPS students will be involved in numerous activities after the reading, including soccer games, soccer skills and agility sessions, team games, crafts and competitions. Students are invited to wear a jersey if they have one for the day or mufti in the colours of their favourite team with sports shoes to ensure they can participate in the sports activities. A GVPS soccer team jersey design competition will also be run in the leadup to the day, with the one prize awarded to each stage for the most creative design. It is set to be an action-packed day full of many opportunities to collaborate with others, be a good team member and get creative.
Just a reminder that Bedtime Bags are once again available for borrowing every Monday afternoon in the library. We have more than 40 bags available, each with 7 books to read before bedtime every night of the week. This is a wonderful way to wind down before bed, enjoy a story with your children and foster a love of reading. Students are welcome to then return them the following Monday or on their class library day.
