🙌Welcome to Term 2🎉

We have had a very busy start to the year already! Our teachers and students have been working extremely hard with their learning. We are proud of their achievements so far and want to give you a little peek into what has been happening in Stage 1. As we begin Term 2, we have many exciting events coming up!  Parent Teacher Interviews, Athletics Carnival, K-2 Assemblies and more. We hope we can see you at some of these events. 

 

What are we learning?

 

English

Students will continue to participate in a daily literacy block which will comprise of speaking and listening, reading, phonics, spelling, writing and handwriting lessons. Through the study of high-quality texts, students will acquire the fundamental concepts of English.

Maths 

Students will continue to participate in mathematics lessons every day. There will be a focus on daily number sense, student reasoning, number and algebra, measurement and space and statistics and probabilty. They will engage in rich mathematical tasks which highlight the importance of working and thinking mathematically.

 

Science

In our unit ‘Physical World’ students will learn about the different forms of energy around us and how can we detect them. They will  identify sound, light, heat, electricity and movement as forms of energy. Students will explore how sound is produced using a variety of different materials. They will develop an understanding of how heat is produced and the various ways we use it.

 

History

Stage 1 will continue to engage in a range of activities based on our unit ‘Present and Past Family Life’. Students will learn about how people lived in the past and make comparisons to present life. They will identify the reasons for change over time and the impact it has had on family life. Students will develop an understanding of what artefacts are and how they can be used to learn about history.

 

CAPA - Visual Arts

Stage 1 will be creating an art work that is inspired by famous artists. They will investigate the unique qualities and details of a vase of flowers as a still arrangement. They will develop an understanding of the importance of balance, harmony and contrast in shapes and colours and how these can be used to make an artwork. 

 

PDHPE

This term, students will learn how their choices affect their safety, including fire safety and lessons from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories. In PE, they practise jumping, hopping and skipping through games, including traditional Indigenous games and skipping rope. These activities build confidence, enjoyment and motivation to stay active. 

 

Phonics

Our Year 1 and 2 students have been busy building their phonics skills, practising sounds and blending words during engaging classroom activities. They are growing in confidence as they learn to read and recognise new words each day.

Science

In Science, students explored the five senses through a fun popcorn investigation. They used sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste to observe and describe what they noticed. This hands-on activity helped them understand how their senses help them learn about the world.

PE - Sport

In PE, students have been active and engaged in a range of fun activities. They are learning to perform both vertical and horizontal jumps while building their coordination and confidence. In the classroom, brain breaks help students stay focused, refreshed and ready to learn.
