Wellbeing

What a wonderful beginning it has been to the opening of Balambalam Primary School. It has been a joy to see our students arrive each day with bright smiles, proudly wearing their new uniforms and settling into their new learning environment.
Over the past two weeks, our wellbeing focus through the ‘Butterfly Beginnings’ program has supported students to become familiar with our whole-school expectations: We are Kind and Connected, We are Learners who Strive for our Personal Best, and We are Safe and Responsible.
Families can support this learning at home by talking with children about their day.
You might ask questions such as,
“What kind words did you use today?”
“Can you show me how you move calmly in the classroom?”
Simple praise when children take responsibility for their behaviour also helps to reinforce these important skills.
Establishing clear classroom routines and procedures is an essential part of creating a safe, calm and successful learning environment. Each cl has been learning how to enter and exit classrooms respectfully, as well as how to move around the school and playground in a safe and predictable way.
The photos shared highlight some wonderful examples of students lining up and transitioning calmly throughout the day.
Another key focus within classrooms has been morning circle time, which plays an important role in building a connected and inclusive classroom community. Students have enjoyed a range of activities, including School of Play games such as ‘Cross the Circle’, a gratitude-focused challenge, and ‘Set Go’, a partner game that encourages turn-taking, cooperation and friendly competition. These activities have been highly engaging and have supported students to learn about one another while strengthening their sense of belonging.
Finally, our Assistant Principal - Inclusion, Mrs Bamford, is currently in India attending the Women Leading: In-country Engagement India 2026 program. While she is greatly missed, we look forward to hearing all about her experiences when she returns.
Warm regards,
