Year 4
Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families,
We are delighted to welcome our Year 4 students and families to a new school year at St Thomas. The children are settling beautifully into the Jericho Learning Space and are already showing enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards learning.
Over the coming weeks, our focus will be on establishing strong routines, building independence, and reinforcing our school-wide expectations through The St Thomas Way. By creating consistent, respectful, and safe learning environments, we aim to support every child to feel confident, connected, and ready to learn.
We look forward to a wonderful year of growth and learning together.
Our Learning this week:
Religious Education:
In Religious Education, Year 4 students are continuing their Journey for Love as they are introduced to St Francis of Assisi and his special focus within the Church. Through prayer, discussion, and reflection, students are learning about gratitude, trust in God, and care for others. As a class, students will create a structured prayer beginning with “My Lord and My God,” followed by something we thank God for, something we ask God for, and a prayer asking God to bless others or those in need.
English
In English, Year 4 students are learning about the different types of sentences used in writing. They are exploring how to write statements, questions, commands, and exclamations, and how punctuation helps convey meaning and tone. Students are demonstrating their learning by correctly writing each type of sentence and using them effectively in their own work.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, Year 4 students are learning to identify multiples of a number using hands-on materials. By grouping, counting, and modelling with concrete resources, students are building a stronger understanding of number patterns and relationships. This practical approach helps develop confidence and supports deeper mathematical thinking.
Integrated Studies
In Integrated Studies, students are learning what geography is and how it helps us understand the world around us. They are exploring the natural features and human features of different places and discussing how these features shape people’s experiences. Students are also learning to explain why places can be special or important to people, helping them develop a sense of connection to communities and environments.
Social Emotional Learning
This week, students have had the chance to explore and practise our school-wide expectations, including appropriate physical contact, understanding the consequence cycle, and moving safely around the school.
Important Reminders:
If you have not already signed and returned the ICT Agreement, we kindly ask that this be completed as soon as possible to allow students to use digital technology at school.
