Year 6

Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families & Friends,

Welcome to a brand new school year at St Thomas the Apostle! We are excited to begin the year alongside our Year 6 students and families, and we look forward to a year filled with engaging learning opportunities, new friendships, and positive growth.

The students have settled in beautifully and have already jumped into their learning with full steam ahead. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, focus, and eagerness to learn in the classroom.

English – Exploring Rivet Boy

In English, students are focusing on the novel Rivet Boy by Barbara Henderson. This historical story follows 12-year-old John Nicol, who begins work at the Forth Bridge construction site in the 1800s. Through this text, students are developing their comprehension skills, exploring character and setting, and gaining insight into life during this time in history.

Mathematics – Order of Operations

In Mathematics, students are learning how to calculate equations using the order of operations. They are developing strong problem-solving skills and learning how to approach multi-step equations with confidence and accuracy.

Religious Education – Understanding Prayer

In Religious Education, students are learning about prayer and building a deeper understanding of its purpose. They are reflecting on different forms of prayer and exploring how prayer supports faith, reflection, and connection with God.

Important Reminders

  • If you have not already done so, please ensure the ICT Agreement has been signed and returned. Students will be unable to use digital technology at school until this is completed.
  • Please make sure all uniform items are clearly labelled with your child’s name using a black marker to help prevent items from being misplaced.

Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with our Year 6 students and families.

Kind regards,

The Year 6 Team
