Term Three Topic Unit: Business and Economics

Our Year 5 and 6 students are really enjoying learning about entrepreneurship this term. They have delved into the world of marketing, discovering what it entails and exploring various types of advertising, such as print and TV ads to modern digital strategies such as brand ambassadors and sponsorships.

We thank Karly and Chris Georgiou for speaking to our students about their roles in Dan Murphy's and Nando's recently, the students were so engaged and loved asking lots of questions!

Earlier this week, our students completed the VIA character strengths survey to help our students on their entrepreneurial journey, identifying their top 5 strengths. All students then used this information during our session with Poppy Griffiths on 'Identifying your strengths'. It was a very interactive and informative session that enabled our students to gain self-awareness before they embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Hooptime

Over 90 excited Grade 5 and 6 students headed off to MSAC early on Friday morning for an action-packed day of Basketball. St. Joseph's was incredibly proud to attend with 10 basketball teams on the day!! The day consisted of multiple 13-minute basketball games against over 10 schools across Melbourne. A huge thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to coach and score on the day, it wouldn't have been the success that it was without you all! Make sure to look at our next newsletter for the student's recount of the day.

Adventures Unlimited: The Land of Lost Things Launch with Andy Griffiths

Our Year 3 - 6 students were very fortunate to join the Andy Griffiths as he celebrated the launch of his newest series, Adventures Unlimited: The Land of Lost Things! Andy Griffiths is one of Australia’s most popular children’s authors. He and illustrator Terry Denton have collaborated on more than 33 bestselling books since their first title, Just Tricking, was published in 1997. Their much-loved Treehouse Series has been embraced by children around the world and is now published in more than 35 countries!

Students were taken on a whimsical adventure around magical lands and were introduced to some of the stellar characters in Andy's new book (say hi to Johnny Knucklehead and Pookie!). It was a wonderful opportunity for all students to ask questions and gain insight into the creative mind of a bestselling author!
