Year 9 & 10

 Mr Conrad Sloan

Greetings from new HOY

A warm hello from me in my new role at St George’s – from Science teacher to Head of Year 9 and 10.

A big thank you to Mr Conrad Sloan for all his efforts with these students, as well as his in-depth knowledge and understanding of all the students that he shared with me during our hand over. I appreciate all he has done to ease my path into the position.

I started Semester Two with a note to each of the year groups, highlighting values that I will be focusing on with each of our Year 9 and 10 students as their Head of Year. I look forward to working with each of the students towards strengthening these values over the remainder of the year.

For the Year 9s, Integrity and Honesty are essential values as they navigate their studies and interactions, helping to build a strong, supportive community. This semester is an opportunity for them to learn to work independently in the class and develop a sound work ethic, as well as be accountable for their actions.

For the Year 10s the values of Responsibility and Pride are crucial as they work together to create a positive and productive learning environment and begin to be seen as the future leaders of the School.

For the Year 10s, this is a particularly an important term as they start their subject selection journey for Year 11 and also look ahead to Year 10 Camp. This is the time where they can develop and strengthen friendships as well as begin thinking more seriously about their future.  About 25 Year 10s have signed up for the Anglicare School Sleepout at Optus Stadium, which is great to see. Year 10s must make the most of the opportunities given to them and never be afraid to ask for guidance or help – my door is always open to them

I am fortunate to already know many of our students through my previous role as Science teacher. Now I look forward to working with families and getting to know our wonderful students that little bit more.

Mr Brad Cotterell

Head of Year 9 and 10
