Production Pizzazz

Our 2024 production, Frozen Jr, was outstanding and received many positive reviews, comments and feedback. Every year I think that our students could not surpass what has occurred before, but they always do. Once again, I was in awe of the performances, the musical talent, the backdrop and stage props and the costumes. It was an outstanding production.

The performers shone and the joy and camaraderie among them was evident to all who were lucky enough to secure tickets. We are so fortunate to have such talented students and dedicated members of staff committed to bringing a school production to life. It is always a huge undertaking. There is something very special about the way our community works together to ensure the absolute success of our annual school productions. The community spirit inspired by the production was palpable and just remarkable to behold.

It is these highly engaging learning experiences that students remember as a highlight of their school life. I am confident that performing to a packed auditorium for each of the four shows will be one of these events that will be cherished for a long time to come. School productions develop not only the talents and skills of our dramatic performances but help to foster high levels of interpersonal skills in cooperation, teamwork and persistence so crucial for our lives beyond the stage. It is hard to measure the importance of such things to students.

Huge thanks to Miss McGaw and Miss Watson for their many hours of direction and production rehearsals. Thank you also to Mr MacMillan for his vocal support and Mrs Taylor and Mr Newton for their production and performance expertise. Thank you also to the many staff who contributed front and back of stage and to the many parents who supported the event in so many ways including making costumes and props, transporting sets and of course coming along to the shows. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did; it was sensational and showcased our drama, dance and musical talents here at St George’s.

So far, just two weeks into Semester Two, we have celebrated our Semester One Academic Award winners, our special NAIDOC Week celebrations and smoking ceremony, we have worn our ‘Hoodies for Homelessness’ which raises money for Team St George’s at the upcoming School Sleepout at Optus Stadium for Anglicare and we have spent the day together in rather wet and wintry weather for the Interhouse House Athletics Carnival. Held for the first time at the State Athletics Centre, we were thrilled with the level of participation of our students both on the track and in the stands despite the downpours.

These magical events highlight to me very clearly where God is at work within our school – both in the ordinary and the extraordinary moments that are precious and fundamental to who we are and what we stand for as an Anglican school.

I wish all St George’s students, staff and families a wonderful Term Three – how blessed are we to belong to the St George’s School Family. Please continue to cast the beam of care on others as we gather to complete all that the term will throw at us together.

Warmest wishes,
