Camp Jungai Reflections

Below are some reflections from the Year 6 Camp Jungai. It is fair to say it was an amazing experience for the students and a big success overall. Camp Jungai continues to provide an engaging and unique outdoor camp experience.

Here are the questions the students reflected on:

  1. What was your highlight of the camp and why?
  2. What is something that challenged or surprised you?
  3. I will always remember…

6A Reflections

I will always remember when canoeing my partner and I got stuck in the bushes. It was really fun. ~ Griffin

The high ropes were one of my highlights because I like obstacle courses, Possum Pull because I like heights, and the cultural sessions with Aunty because I learnt so many many cool things! ~ Zosia

Something that surprised/ challenged me on camp was that I actually got through the campout. I was very nervous, especially because when my mum first told me we were going to camp out, I burst into tears and told her I didn’t want to go at ALL! ~ Roxy

Camp was absolutely amazing! I loved every second of it! I loved my cabin because they were so supportive and fun, the campout night and the activities were my highlights. ~ Abigail

The high ropes challenged me because the first time I did it, I stopped and went down midway, but then I tried again and did the whole thing with support of my peers. ~ Rylee

I have so many highlights of camp. If I could, I would say the entire camp was my highlight! But if I had to pick, it would be how I will always remember the generosity and how caring the camp instructors were. ~ Audrey

I was surprised that I could hold and carry the huge campout pack! I will also remember all the awesome action shots that Tom, Quimby and Sarah took. That rocked! ~ Lila

6B Reflections

Possum Pull was my highlight because I got rid of my fear of heights. ~ Geet

What challenged me and surprised me was the high ropes course. I have a fear of heights and I feel like I conquered it little by little until… I wasn’t scared anymore. ~ Lexi

Raft building was a big challenge, however it paid off very well because of the satisfaction when we saw we passed the challenge and the raft floated. ~ Max

A highlight of camp was our cabin comedy night, which was a blast. We had solo acts and duo acts. We all had a laugh and it was so enjoyable and fun for us all. ~ Quinn

I will always remember the memories of hanging out with my friends on our last primary school camp. ~ Ryder

My highlight was camping out with all of my friends and spending quality time with them in the cabins. The high ropes and camp fire were also stand outs. ~ Oscar

Something that surprised me on camp was how much fun the whole experience was over the whole week and how enjoyable the food was. ~ Alex

The low ropes course surprised me because I thought it was going to be easy and straightforward but it was actually really difficult. ~ Andie

I will always remember the whole experience of camp. There was no singular moment that I can pick out of the week. It was all so brilliant and special. Every activity was a new journey calling for adventure and fun. I wish that it lasted forever and that I never forget my time at Jungai. ~ George

I will always remember when I fell into the 8 degree water in the lake, during the raft building activity. The water was shockingly cold! ~ Wilson

My highlight for Camp Jungai is hard to choose, as nearly every moment was magical. But I would have to choose the cabin civil war between the Homebenders and Orochie. ~ Patrick

I was surprised that the high ropes would unlock my small yet real fear of heights. Luckily, I completed the course with little casualties. But the harness did hurt like hell when jumping back down… ~ Grace

6C Reflections

Probably the cabins and the campout. Unlike most people, I had 8 hours sleep (much more than usual), and it was really peaceful and nature-y, I LOVED IT! ~ Penny

Experiencing new things. I loved the challenges and risks you had to take, the quick thinking and teamwork that was needed. I love trying new things and I can gladly say that I learned lots of stuff at camp. ~ Charlie

The raft building because I found out that the water was cold and the ground was very sticky mud! ~ Matthew

My highlights of camp were; 1. The raft building because it was fun in the pond and 2. The canoeing because Patrick and I didn’t capsize. ~ Clyde

When we all were sitting around the campfire, singing songs and the story about the Princess and the King. ~ Mabel

I loved the cultural sessions because they were so interesting and fun! I learnt some Aboriginal symbols and painted them on my boomerang. I also learnt about lots of native plants that smelt and tasted amazing! ~ Ramona

Possum Pull because I faced my fear of heights! As I was going up I could see some friends from another group cheering me on and it made me feel empowered. ~ Alex

Spending time with my friends in the cabin and making stuff with the mattresses and blankets. ~ Rocco

Going on the high ropes and feeling like I was holding on for dear life but I was still having so much fun being 20 metres in the air! ~ Huey

Possum Pull, as I enjoy being hoisted up in the air dangling metres above the ground and the little plushies made it even better! ~ Taylor

There was so many things I could say, but canoeing was super fun, and Penny and I both enjoyed it because of our teamwork as partners. ~ Selby

The whole camp was the highlight for me! The amazing activities & experiences were so exciting & fun with all sorts of new challenges and surprises! ~ Sadie

Hanging with my friends in the cabin because I enjoyed their company. ~ Elly

The campout on the second night scared and challenged me. Putting me out of my comfort zone, but I had lots of fun in the end and ate lots of marshmallows. ~ Anna
