Prep students have a brilliant start to Term 3 and are displaying increased independence with their school routines. To support this, we kindly ask that parents and students are not in classrooms or corridors before the bell rings.  We recommend saying goodbye in the court yard to continue to develop this independence for our students. 

Literacy Overview• 

Literacy Overview

In Reading, students are being extended to make 5 sound words and will be introduced to the following sounds over the coming weeks in reading and spelling:

Week 3/4 – sh      Week 5/6 – ch     

Students will be learning about making connections to texts to their own world, discussing how asking questions can help us understand a text better and will explore how to summarise a text through pictures and words.

In Writing, students will be working on expanding their sentences to include and, because and but to join ideas together. They will continue to write about their own experiences and mentor texts in their Writer’s Notebook. Later in the term, students will explore fact writing and letter writing which will link in with our inquiry topic of important places.

In Speaking and Listening, students will share thoughts, ideas, special things and hobbies with the class during our structured share time sessions.

Numeracy Overview

We have begun the term focussing on addition and subtraction. The students have been learning about the different vocabulary related and worded problems. Our next topic we will be focusing on is is the language of Position and Movement. Followed by in week 5 ‘Sharing Groups’ and in week 6 ‘Patterns’.

Inquiry Overview

In Term 3 our theme is ‘Exploring Places’ focussing on ‘We all have important places’

We will be visiting one of our important places in Barwon Heads – The River. 

Our first visit to the river is in week 4 on Monday the 5th August.
