BEGINNING OF TERM 3
Literacy Overview
Reading:
We will continue our book clubs in Term 3. We will also analyse our class novel, Refugee, The Diary of Ali Ismail. We will continue our weekly BTN focus to support students' digital literacy and note-taking skills.
Writing: Our focus will be on persuasive writing and information reports, aligning with our Inquiry unit on citizenship.
Speaking and Listening: Students will engage in discussions and presentations related to our Inquiry focus including passing laws and government, enhancing their communication skills.
Numeracy Overview
Number & Algebra:
We will focus on multiplication and division as inverse operations, and explore patterns, sequences, and algorithms.
Measurement & Geometry:
Our studies will include concepts of time, mass, and capacity, helping students understand practical applications of these measurements.
Statistics & Probability:
Students will be exposed to weekly, fortnightly and monthly reviews to continually work on understanding data through various statistical methods.
Inquiry Overview
This term, we will delve into the topic of citizenship, exploring the three levels of government, how laws are passed, and what it means to be a member of a community. Students will learn about the importance of rules and how they impact our daily lives.
How Parents Can Support Their Grade 5 Child At Home
- Nude Food: Encourage your child to bring 'nude food' (no single-use plastics).
- Use of Diary: Help your child keep their school diary up to date.
- Home Reading: Regular home reading is essential.
- Reading Discussions: Please support your child by discussing the books they are reading. Ask questions about the books to enhance comprehension.
- Real Life Maths: Engage your child in real-life maths discussions, such as measuring ingredients for a recipe or calculating change when shopping.
Upcoming Dates
- Week 6 Book Week: Book week will be in Week 6. We will hold our annual book swap. We will provide further information as the date approaches.
- Term 4 School Camp: Our school camp at Cave Hill Creek in Beaufort is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13th to Friday, November 15th. More information will be provided shortly. Please reach out if you have any specific concerns or are interested in being involved as a parent volunteer.
