A Message From Anna

Acting Principal's Report

This week has been a very productive week for Box Hill North Primary School and Kindergarten!

On Monday, students participated in the Mini Olympics, which saw students dressed in the colours of their classroom country. The Opening Ceremony provided each country a chance to march out to its national anthem and  share information about their class country. Students then participated in tabloid sports, such as tunnel ball, skipping, quoits and various races! The way students displayed out school values – Courage, Ambition, Compassion and Creativity – throughout the day was truly inspiring and heart-warming. All students should be very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to {CLASS NAME} of {COUNTRY} for winning GOLD! Thank you to Emily Collins for her organisation and running of this fun, whole school event!

100 Days of Prep

Wednesday we had some very small, very elderly visitors to our school, who looked suspiciously like our Prep students. Coincidentally, this was also the 100th day of school for our Preps! Congratulations to our courageous and compassionate Prep students (and their parents) for completing 100 Days of school this year!

I was lucky enough to participate in some of the 100 days activities with our elderly students. We sang along to some background music whilst stringing 100 fruit loops onto a ribbon, and chatted about what I need to know as the new principal at school. One of the main rules, I was told, was not to pick my nose!

Statewide Principal Conference

On Monday, Ainslie and I attended the Statewide Principal Conference at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Our day started with an address from the Minister for Education – The Hon. Ben Carroll – and the Deputy Secretary of schools and regional services – Dr David Howes. Key messages for the day were about the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, which focusses on the Elements of Teaching and Learning as key components of best practice teaching.

Later in the day we heard from Dr Jenny Donovan, who spoke about using evidence on implementation and on practice as a powerful combination. Combining evidence about implementation of best practice to maximise student learning outcomes should be the focus of every school.

It was an educational day for all who attended!
