Principal's Message

Carmela D'Amato (Principal)

Dear Families,

What a busy but wonderful term we have had already. We can’t believe that we are already at the half way mark for this term.

PRAYER SPACE

Our Breath as Prayer by Jennifer Tucker for this week comes from Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live , but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” As a family, you may like to take some time to find a quiet space, read the Scripture passage, take some time to reflect and then follow the breathing words as you inhale and exhale.

KINDER VISITS

Our Year 4 and Year 5 students have had an amazing time hosting kindergarten students from Taylor Drive Kinder. Our students were able to read stories with them and take part in tabloid sports during our Olympic week. We were also fortunate enough to have an ex Olympian who works at the kinder,  come to show her Olympic Torch from when she participated in the games in 1976!

OLYMPIC WEEK

Olympic week was a major success and we thank our Olympic committee for all the background work that goes into organising such a week. There were so many photos of the tasks that students were involved in coming through seesaw so I hope that you have had a chance to look through them.  Thank you to all the parents for providing Olympic themed dress ups for our students also, everyone looked amazing!

POPCORN TUESDAYS

Popcorn Tuesdays have been a hit with our staff and students. Thank you to the Parent Association for  organising a healthy snack for our students to eat. Please keep a look out on Audiri for the next Popcorn Tuesday and if you can volunteer, that would be amazing! Please email Ebony ebonyweston@outlook.com

TEETH ON WHEELS

Thankyou to those families that have taken up the opportunity to have their child seen by the Teeth on Wheels dentists. Any students who have been registered will be seen over a two week period. So far they have been here for two days and will be back next week. If your child has not yet been seen by the dentist, please don't worry as there is still next week.

BOOK FAIR

The BOOK FAIR has arrived!!  We will be opening our book fair doors this Friday afternoon after our snuggle up and read session. The book fair is a great way to encourage a love for reading whilst also raising funds for our school library. Thank you to Mrs Amira who organises our book fair each year! Many of the classes had the opportunity to walk through today and fill in their ‘wish list’ and it’s been wonderful listening to the  conversations regarding book choice. Happy Reading!

EXCURSIONS

The excursions that have been planned to complement our Big Question around HISTORY have begun. The Preps today are continuing to explore the big question:   How does the past make us who we are? and the excursion will help them to compare the past with the present such as the life of children, games, technologies, fashions, and entertainment. Como Historic House and Garden is one of the last surviving 19th Century grand houses of Melbourne. Students can compare the life of 19th Century children and families to their own experiences on a tour of the house where the lives of 19th Century children are brought to life.

Our Year 5s are visiting the Immigration Museum where they are unpacking the question ‘Who were the people who came to Australia? Why did they come? What impact did they have?’. The excursion will help them to unpack the questions:

What were the causes and the reasons why people migrated to Australia in the 1800s?

What were their experiences and contributions?

FATHER'S DAY

This year we are inviting all dads and father figures to attend a special breakfast with their child. Breakfast is being supplied by OSH club and it is a great way to meet other dads as well as spend the morning with your children. Please see all notifications coming out on Audiri to celebrate this day.  The Parent Association has also organised a raffle for the morning so please come prepared to buy some tickets, hopefully yours is the LUCKY ONE!!

CARPARK

We continue to ask for patience when using our school car park. Many times, parents are in a rush and come driving through very quickly. We ask that you enter the car park slowly and continue at that pace until you leave. We need to be mindful that we have people crossing the car park at various points and need to maintain safety at all times.

nFORMA

As you are aware, we have moved to a platform called nForma for our reporting system as well as adding the attendance and nAID to the package.

Wishing all families a wonderful week, enjoy this glorious weather!
