Year 6 Canberra Camp
The Year six students from St Margaret’s were lucky enough to recently undertake an education tour of the national capital, Canberra.
The students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. They visited important sites such as the War Memorial, the High Court, Parliament House, Geoscience Australia, the Electoral Education Centre and the Royal Australian Mint. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.
To assist in meeting the cost of the camp the Australian Government is contributing funding to St Margaret’s school in the amount of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the camp and this was taken into consideration when calculating the cost of camp.
Prep and Year 1 Incursion - Market Fresh
The Prep and Year 1 students learnt about healthy fruits and vegetables at their Market Fresh Incursion on Monday. They were able to taste different foods and learn lots of facts about how some fruits are grown.
Year 4 Science Incursion
Last week, on Monday 23rd February, Year 4 were excited to have a Science Incursion to learn all about "Forces in Action". The presenter, Ken, showed us some really cool experiments that demonstrated friction, gravity, magnetism, air pressure and balance. We worked out how to balance 10 nails on top of one using gravity and balance. We watched tops pop out of test tubes using friction and air pressure. We stuck balloons to our heads with friction. We raced balloon rockets across the room using friction and air pressure. We balanced spinning tops using magnetism and gravity.
Milena said: "I liked when they let the balloons go and they went crazy."
Brooklyn said: "Everything was fun. I liked the Popping Tubes because it was fun to watch and fun to hold."
Lincoln said: "I liked the magnetic spinning tops because they could light up and spin without falling off."
Aidan said: "I liked balancing the ten nails on top of one because at first I balanced one nail at a time. But when I worked out how to do it, it was satisfying to see it work."
