What do the Foundations think about 'Big School'?

"And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me". Matthew 18:5

It is a blessing and a privilege to welcome our new Foundation students to our Brooklyn Park campus. They are still getting used to many different, new and exciting things as they begin their learning journey at “big school”.

It is very early days as the students become used to the rhythm and routine of the school day, and we asked our students some questions about starting school. These are some of their responses:

What do you want to learn at school this year?

Aston - I want to learn sports at PE.

Tatiana - I want to learn about science

Thomas - I want to learn how to draw toys and colour them in.

Jerry - I want to learn to draw a Hot Wheels car.

Lily - I want to learn to write.

Mignon - I want to learn how to play with friends.

What do you think about school so far?

Oakley - It’s good! I like the classroom and my name badge.

Abigail - It’s fun and hard! Numbers and Maths are fun and part of Maths is hard.

Malia - It’s interesting and there is lots of learning.

How is school different from Kindy/ELC?

Rayaan - I had lots of friends at kindy. School is nice but I want to make more friends.

Mario - My mum doesn’t come inside to pick me up - she waits outside.

Kysha - The class is small at ELC and big at school.

Isabela - I like school more

Luke A - The teacher is not the same.

Arabella - At ELC we don’t have up and down lockers.

Hayley - The toys are different.

Florence - The drink bottles do not go by the sink at pre-school.

Jonathan - The floor is different.

What do you like about school?

Adele - My mum’s new electric bike. The electric bike is faster when I ride to school with her.

Levi - I like playing puzzles.

Jake - I like playing on the slide

David - I like being close to my sister.

Silas - It is close to the airport and I can see the planes.

Sofia - Playing with my friends and the monkey bars.

Emily - I like the puppets in the classroom

Isaac - I like playing with Oakley.

Tommy - it teaches me how to write

Samuel - You get to count down to 100 days of school

Luke W - I like going to the library.

Joseph - I like the school bus

Husdon - I like my friends.

Rui - I like playing.

Christopher - I like playing on the spiderweb.

What is hard about school?

Jewel - Trying to read a book

Miggy - Staying still at rest time.

Angus - Drawing

Janelle - Listening to the teacher when it is group time.

Daniel - Doing hard work

Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it. ”

Brooklyn Park Welcome Picnic 2026 🧺😎

Last Tuesday, our Brooklyn Park campus welcomed families and students to the annual Welcome Picnic, and the smiles on everyone's faces said it all.

Students had an absolute blast enjoying the jumping castle, bubble play, games, face painting, and so much more.

It was great to see our Brooklyn Park families connecting, catching up, and spending time together, as well as with our Emmaus staff.

A huge thank you to our dedicated staff for the fantastic organisation and for always creating such a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere.

Student Leader Badge Presentation

On Monday in Assembly, we acknowledged and presented our Year 6 student leaders with their badges. A very exciting moment acknowledging the responsibility they've been given to help others and to make the Brooklyn Park campus a place where everyone is loved, known, and valued.

Water Safety Week – Years 3–6🏊

Students in Years 3–6 across both Brooklyn Park and South Plympton campuses recently took part in Water Safety Week, enjoying beautiful weather and a week of valuable learning in and around the pool.

Throughout the week, students developed essential water safety skills, built confidence in the water, and practised safe behaviours that support lifelong wellbeing. The program provided an important opportunity for students to strengthen their swimming skills while learning how to keep themselves and others safe in aquatic environments.

A sincere thank you to our teachers for their preparation, encouragement, and care throughout the week, and to our parents and caregivers for the incredible behind-the-scenes support, especially ensuring students arrived each day prepared with freshly laundered swimming gear!

We also extend our thanks to the team at Marion Outdoor Pool and the swimming instructors, whose professionalism, expertise, and positive engagement with students helped make the week such a success.

Congratulations to our students for their positive attitude, effort, and willingness to challenge themselves.  Each student represented our community with pride and made Water Safety Week a wonderful success.

It was a wonderful week of learning, growth, and community spirit, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed.
