Before and After School Supervision

Student safety at Golden Square Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised from 8:35 am with two staff members on either gate. At 8:45 am, another two staff members begin yard supervision in the play areas.

After school: School grounds are supervised by a staff member on the Maple Street Gate and another staff member at the Mackenzie Street West Gate. This supervision is in place until 3:30 pm. The supervision after school is aimed at supporting the children to exit the school grounds safly. Any child remaining on school grounds after the 3:15 pm bell to play within the grounds, must be accompanied and supervised by a nominated parent or carer.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised - unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity.

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

Families are encouraged to contact Camp Australia on 1300 105 343 or refer to Camp Australia's Golden Square Primary School site for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community.

If you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements, please contact the office.

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy you may go to our school website. This policy includes Golden Square Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

Keeping our Children Safe at Drop-off and Pick-Up

The beginning and end of the school day are some of our busiest times, and ensuring the safety of every child is a shared responsibility.

We have recently noticed a small number of unsafe practices, including vehicles performing u-turns, double parking, and students entering cars that are stopped rather than parked in designated bay. While we understand that everyone is often in a hurry, these behaviours significantly increase the risk to our children.

We kindly ask all families to:

  • Park only in designated parking bays
  • Avoid double parking
  • Refrain from performing u-turns anywhere along the front of the school
  • Use the pedestrian crossings at all times if crossing the road.

Using the crossings models safe road behaviour for our children and helps ensure drivers can clearly anticipate where pedestrians will be.

Our goal is always to maintain a safe, Kind and respectful environment for all members of our Golden Square Primary School community. Thank you for working as one to prioritise safey at the busy times of the day.
