Visual Arts – Term 1, 2026

I am excited to share what students will be covering in Visual Arts during Term 1. We have a colourful and fun term ahead across all year levels, and I am really looking forward to exploring creativity in a variety of ways with the students.

Junior students will be focusing on drawing, painting and collage.

  • Foundation students will begin by becoming familiar with the Art room etiquette, layout and the materials we use regularly. Towards the end of the term, they will create a collage artwork.

  • Year 1 students have begun by making some imaginative paper monsters using paper scraps. They will also complete artist studies of Claude Monet, Axel Scheffler and Mem Fox, including appreciation activities and a close look at different artistic styles.

  • Year 2 students will create a wax resist spider web artwork before adding a detailed spider drawing. They will also explore cool and warm colours using a range of mediums.

Senior students will be focusing on drawing and using oil pastels.

  • Year 3 students will complete an artist study of Vincent van Gogh. You can look forward to seeing beautiful sunflower artworks displayed near the main office, created both collaboratively and individually. We will also be making some clay coil pots that the students will glaze to add colour.

  • Year 4 will focus on colour and concentric circles, with a vibrant kaleidoscope of colour display planned. They will also explore paper construction by creating paper and card 3D cities.

  • Year 5 students will investigate the artwork of Kandinsky and abstract art, exploring line, shape and colour. We will also be looking at the artists Ken Done and Romero Britto and we will create some paintings and drawings inspired by those two artists.

  • Year 6 students will be making individual tie dye flags to decorate the Art room using a variety of different craft materials. They will also create delightful cake and milkshake artworks inspired by American artist Wayne Thiebaud, using techniques that give the illusion of 3D — often looking good enough to eat or drink!

Thank you to the families who have already sent in spare shoeboxes — they are very much appreciated. Please keep them coming throughout the year, as they are especially useful for projects such as the Year 2 Under the Sea dioramas later in the year. Empty cardboard paper towel tubes would also be extremely helpful and are always gratefully received.
