Year 5/6 Update – Term 1

Welcome to an exciting new year in Year 5/6! Our team for 2025 includes Ms Howard (PLC Leader), Miss Carroll, and Miss Kupper, and we are thrilled to be working with our students as they embark on their final years of primary school.

This term, our learning focus includes the Care for Kids unit from MAPPEN, where students will explore social justice issues and the importance of caring for others. Our Year 6 students have also begun the MESH program, which focuses on mental, emotional, and spiritual health, while also introducing an element of career exploration to help students think about their future pathways.

Upper school sport has commenced, and students are preparing for an exciting season of summer sports. Coaching sessions with the Secondary College are about to begin, providing valuable skill development and teamwork opportunities for our students. Additionally, some of our students are engaging in the Hands On Learning program, fostering practical skills and teamwork in a hands-on environment.

Our school leaders have stepped into their roles confidently, taking on the responsibility of running assemblies, while our Tribal Leaders are ensuring playground equipment is well-managed during break times. Meanwhile, our SRC leaders have been busy maintaining our school’s flags and will take on additional responsibilities as the term progresses.

We are also excited to see the Buddies Program beginning to take shape. This program helps to create a strong connection between our Foundation and upper primary students, ensuring our youngest learners feel supported, safe, and welcomed in their new school environment.

Staying Connected

Families can stay up to date with what’s happening in Year 5/6 through our school’s social media pages, but most importantly, through Seesaw. This platform is a key communication tool between teachers and families, so we encourage all parents and guardians to stay engaged.

Reminders for Families

  • Mobile Devices: As per Department policy, all students must hand their mobile devices into the office upon arrival at school.
  • Reading at Home: We strongly encourage students to read every night and bring their reader to school daily to be checked by their classroom teacher. Special prizes will be awarded to students who consistently engage in reading.
  • iPads: If your child has a home iPad, please ensure they bring it to school fully charged each day.
  • Healthy Eating: As our 5/6 students grow and go through the early developmental stages of puberty, we ask for family support in providing a nutritious recess, lunch, and extra snacks to keep them energised throughout the day.

With such a jam-packed term ahead, we are looking forward to seeing our students grow in confidence, responsibility, and teamwork. Stay tuned for more updates as the term unfolds!
