From the Library Resource Centre (LRC)

SLRC News

Welcome to All New and Returning Students and Families, and I hope your students have settled well into their new classes!

Welcome emails have also been sent to Senior School Students listing the Library Resources available for their use.

While I predominantly work in the Senior Library Resource Centre, there are 2 days per fortnight when I am on JS Library duty and will not be in the Senior Library. This year those days are Monday Week A, and Tuesday Week B.  Mrs Gaye Verhoeven covers the Junior Libraries on the alternate days – Tuesday Week A, and Monday Week B. Junior School Library days are Monday for JS Springwood students, and Tuesday for JS Wentworth Falls students.

The Senior Library is open from 8.10am until 4.45pm for you to do homework or group work, or while waiting for transport home. The Senior Library is also the location for Maths and English tutoring after school on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. This is for anyone who wishes to ask teaching staff for assistance with their class work. The Senior Library is not open the afternoons I am on JS Library duty, however, if students wish to stay back on those days, they can use the JCSC until 4.00pm.

Loan limits for Students:

  • Early Learning = 2 items for 2 weeks;
  • Primary = 3 items for 2 weeks;
  • Years 7-10 = 4 items for 2 weeks;
  • Years 11-12 = 6 items for 2 weeks.

The resources that the Senior Library provides include :

A variety of items for loan: Fiction and non-fiction books, including some that have large print and/or dyslexia font, and a small collection of hi-lo books; graphic novels/manga; audiobooks; DVDs; magazines; and HSC resources. There is also a photocopier for students to use to print their work or copy resources.

Library catalogue – found via the Student Portal or: https://bmgs.softlinkhosting.com.au/oliver/home/browse/list . There is also the News Page of the Library Catalogue that contains other information sources for research needs - https://bmgs.softlinkhosting.com.au/oliver/home/news . I have attached a document to this article on how to access the Library Catalogue.

ClickView – audio visual platform used for class work, found via the Student Portal & here: https://www.clickview.net/secondary . If you are looking for a particular program but cannot find it in the collection, please ask your teachers or me for assistance, as I can request programs from other ClickView Schools. I have also attached a document to assist you with accessing ClickView, with all new students being added into this database using your BMGS student username as the username login. As I am the administrator for ClickView accounts, please let me know if you have any problems. When adding your name to this platform, I also generated an email to you to activate your account within 30 days.

World Book Online – digital encyclopaedia resource found via the Student Portal pages, and the News Page of the Library Catalogue (see Library catalogue News page link above).

Warringal Publications -  for Economics or Legal studies students, links to these magazines can also be found on the Student Portal pages.

Turnitin – this is a plagiarism tool that Senior School Teachers use for assessments. They will sometimes ask students to submit their assessments via this tool, which can also be found via the Student Portal page.

Fairfax Newspapers - this link is also found via the Student Portal, and includes the newspaper titles : Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and Australian Financial Review. Due to the licence restrictions, the newspapers can only be accessed while onsite at School, not remotely from home.

For any assistance or queries, students can see me in the relevant Library branch, or email me: bmgslrc@bmgs.nsw.edu.au

I hope the school year has started smoothly, and I wish students all the very best for your studies this year!

Thank you and best regards,
