A note from Mr Jackson

Within School Transition Sessions

Students held their second transition session on Wednesday. These are opportunities to get to know the students that will shape their area. For many, it is an opportunity to gain an awareness of new spaces as well as faces. On ‘Meet the Teacher Day’, scheduled for Monday 18 December, students will have an opportunity to meet their 2024 classroom teacher and classmates. As described previously, a great deal of reflection has occurred with diverse factors considered to shape balanced learning communities. While our school numbers continue to fluctuate and staff changes are still occurring, the process of establishing classes has been made even more difficult. While we are looking forward to announcing classes on ‘Meet the Teacher Day’, we are always conscious that these classes can change over the holiday break due to enrolments and staffing.

This year, we have scheduled a special transition webinar for our Year 6 students while the rest of the school gather in their 2024 classes. We hope that this is another way we can ease any transition worries.

Uniform Swap (Friday 8 December)

A quick pop-up second hand uniform shop will be available on Friday in the Art Room after assembly until 4:00pm. This termly event is an opportunity to trade upwards as students grow. With a sustainability focus, it aims to make the most of our second-hand uniforms. There is more information of the specifics in this newsletter!

FORPS Paella Picnic on the Oval

(Friday 8 December)

FORPS are eager to celebrate the wonderful year of learning and life at Rosanna Primary School on Friday night. The Paella Van is booked and will be ready to serve and orders have been confirmed. For those who have not ordered, bring along a blanket and a picnic to enjoy.

With the possibility of rain, an alternative plan has been arranged. Chairs and tables will be set up in the hall for those who wish to sit and enjoy a sit down meal. Recognising we will not be able to fit in the hall all at once, people may wish to come and go, or even do ‘take away’. News of any changes will be communicated through Compass! If we do need to take up this option we will need some volunteers to help set up after the assembly. If you are able to lend a hand please contact the office and let them know.

Friday Shuffle

With the possibility that Friday will be wet and force our picnic into Chandler Hall, we may have to shuffle some other afternoon activities. Chess Club will shuffle into rooms 2 and 3 (12N and 12R classrooms), TheirCare will move into the library and the Uniform Swap will spread out in the art room.

Volunteers’ Morning Tea

(Wednesday 13 December)

Staff look forward to sharing their gratitude to all those in our community who have generously supported learning in classrooms, helped maintain the site, contributed to the School Fair and offered their support in so many different ways. While we have been able to send a number of invitations, we are conscious that we may have missed many. Please forgive us if you are one of our valued volunteers and consider yourself invited. We are gathering at just before 11:00am on Wednesday 13 December for a morning tea prepared by staff. This will be a chance to hear of the allocation of teachers to classes in 2024.

Yearbook Update

Here is your chance to purchase our 2023 Yearbook. Many parents and carers have already provided consent for their children to appear in the yearbook. For those who have yet to provide consent, tomorrow is your final opportunity! We will remove reference to your child from the yearbook if we do not receive consent to publish your child’s photo or first name. Consent can be provided on QKR! or via the hard copy sent home.

Copies can be ordered online via QKR! for just $20. Orders need to be received by Sunday 17 December. Students will receive their copies during the final week of school! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to capture 2023! All profits go to the Junior School Council.

Instrumentalist Afternoon

(Monday 11 December)

On Monday afternoon, all are invited to hear a little of the wonderful talents of so many in our instrumentalist classes. A special soirée will be held in Chandler Hall starting at 3:45pm until 4.30pm. Hear the strum of guitars, the vibrations of violins and see dancing fingers on keyboards. All are welcome to join us. For those considering enrolling in 2024, it will be a wonderful opportunity to gain a taste of what instrumentalist lessons might be like. It is always a wonderful time of encouragement and celebration.

Graduation Celebrations

(Thursday 14 December)

We are looking forward to celebrating the conclusion of our Year 6 students experiences at Primary School on Thursday evening.  While everything is coming together well, some parents have suggested a light finger food experience prior to the start of the function. I am sure that this will make the event even more special. Although payment for students’ graduation experiences have already been paid, parents are most welcome to contribute to the costs of the finger food by paying $10.00 on QKR! This is a voluntary contribution but is greatly appreciated.

Year 1/2 Area Swimming Day

(Friday 15 December)

Ivanhoe Aquatic Centre have confirmed that Friday 15 December has been set aside for students in the 1/2 Learning Area to attend an end of year swimming lesson. This event has been rescheduled because the aquatic centre was forced to cancel one of the days during the swimming programme. This makeup day has come at the right time to celebrate the end of year for the 1/2 cohort. While the cost of the event has been covered in previous payments, parents and carers are asked to give their consent as the outing occurs on a different day than previously arranged. This consent can only be provided via a hard copy Compass notice distributed yesterday.

Big Day In

(Monday 18 December)

Our Big Day In will be a chance for students to finish the year with positivity, connection and fun. The day will begin with a giant whole school session of tabloid sports on the oval. Multiage groups will celebrate one of our important values, Collaboration. Many will remember the last visit of Kaboom Sports in 2021 for our end of year festivities. Parents/Carers are invited to pay the $12.00 to cover the costs of the event on QKR!

At 11:30am the ‘Meet the Teacher’ session will see students slip into a Time Machine and venture into 2024. This time will be a chance to build connections for students to springboard into their 2024 year.

Many have ordered their special sushi end of year lunch at the canteen that will be enjoyed on the day. A special thanks to Sharon for coordinating this part of the day.

The afternoon will be a chance to relax in classes and learning areas with a video!

Express Yourself Day

(Tuesday 19 December)

Our Junior School Council are holding an ‘Express Yourself’ Day celebrating diversity and valuing each other for who they are. While difference is often perceived as a negative and can be used to isolate and set others apart, the Junior School Council have reminded us that differences are worthy of celebration and are an invitation to learn from each other. This idea arose out of the Student Voice ideas box. Students are encouraged to contribute a gold coin for Junior School Council projects.

End of Term – Early Finish

(Wednesday 20 December)

A reminder that the end of term is on Wednesday 20 December with an early finish at 1:30pm. Supervision in the playground ceases at 1:45pm.

Fishing Rods for Level 5 Students!

The Victorian Government is investing $1.5 million from the Recreational Fishing License Trust Fund to provide up to 95,000 Little Angler Kits to primary school aged children in Victoria.

The free kits provide a wonderful school holiday activity for children with their families and help ease the cost of living, providing a fun activity close to home.

This week, Level 5 students will receive their Little Angler Kits. They have been selected based on the Victorian Curriculum focus, movement and motor development and safety considerations.

The kits include a rod, reel with line, tackle tray, some tackle and information on how to use them to catch a fish. Please note that the tackle tray includes fishing hooks. The tackle tray is wrapped in cardboard inside a pocket of the fishing kit bag.  The pocket is sealed with a cable tie to discourage students from opening their kits until they are with a parent or carer.

Kits will be handed out to students to take home with them next week. Teachers will tell students not to open the kits until they are safely at home with a parent or carer. Parents can contact the school by Tuesday and request to collect their kit from the school themselves if they prefer.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority have created a range of supportive resources. It has useful information, instructional videos and online resources about where and how to fish linking to existing resources.

This initiative aims to grow recreational fishing participation in Victoria by actively encouraging primary school aged children to learn how to fish, as well as learning more about marine life and the natural environment.
