Headstart

Year 8 Our Worlds

A new initiative introduced this year,  'Our Worlds' was a week-long project-based learning program where Year 8 students created and showcased their own fictional countries and competed in sporting events. It aimed to foster teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and global awareness among students. Grouped in their 2024 classes it was also a key activity for students to get to know their new classmates and teachers.

Year 9 Design Thinking

Now firmly part of MGSC's Year 9 Headstart program, Design Thinking had eight classes designing and building to scale a future suburb in the local area. Over a week the students acquire the background knowledge on the social issues of planning, learnt new skills through Masterclasses, and then incorporated robotics, electronics and 3D printing and other elements into their design.  A true STEAM initiatiave, it seemlessly incorporates science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Design Thinking also develops the 21st century skills that the OCED states are required in our students: critical thinking/problem solving, collaboration, communication and creativity.

Year 10 Passion Project workshops

Another new initiative, Year 10s students were invited to select workshops that matched their interest or curiosity to try something new.  Multiple sessions were run over two days with an eclectic mix of workshops themes -
