Holiday Borrowing

With one week to go until the end of school for 2023, the library still has 50 items overdue. Students are encouraged to return their library books and borrow for the holidays.  We have just received a box of new books in the mail that will be catalogued for borrowing next week.  The Year 10-12 students leaving this week on Friday are invited to select a summer read from the display in the library entrance.

Wellness Collection and VCE History Collection

The new Wellness Collection is located near the entrance to the library.  Students can choose from a variety of mindfulness, personal care and self-help, books to peruse over the holidays.

There is also a new VCE History Collection, specifically curated for those VCE students studying the American Revolution, Empires and the Russian Revolution.  Reading a book of interest about a historical movement or person will provide students with an extended knowledge base of their chosen subject.

Book Club

The last Book Club meeting was held on Wednesday  – to discuss the mystery novel Retro by Sofía Lapuente and Jarrod Shusterman and Sorcery of Thorns a fantasy novel by Margaret Rogerson. There was rigorous debate amongst Book-clubbers about the characterization and writing style of the novel Retro, as students felt the book was contrived – an inferior version of the 80s hit The Breakfast Club.   The second novel, Sorcery of Thorns did not disappoint the fantasy fans of our Book Club, however our non-fantasy readers were not as easily impressed as it was found to be slow-moving in the opening chapters.  As we sign off for 2023, Book Club members are currently selecting a few books to be read over the holiday period in preparation for discussion next year.

Students are welcome to drop by the library or email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au to add their name to the Book Club mailing list.
