School Sport Victoria State Finals report

A huge congratulations to the eleven incredible boys that played through three winning games and into the State Grand Final play off for Primary Boys Softball on Monday 27th November.

Beautifully led all day by our Australian baseball representatives, Bodhi E and Alex W, the team was compromised of Leo W, Charlie D, Axel K, Owen H, Zac R, Alex H, Eddie R, Sidh N and Jack D.

Our first game was a nail-biting 18-16 win against Rosanna Golf Link PS.  We moved on to a dominant win against St Mary’s Mooroopna 16-5 then backed that up with another convincing win 21-10 against Bass Valley PS.  There was little to no down time between games, and everyone had to play their role for four hours in a row.

We entered the State Grand Final play-off vs Strathmore North PS as under-dogs, given that Strathmore North have won the State Finals four times in the last nine years, but the boys held their heads up high and every one of them had a moment of glory with the bat or in the field. It was an impressive team effort.

It was an exhilarating game with scores level 15-15 after three innings.  We started the fourth innings with 6 precious runs but unfortunately, we were overtaken as Strathmore North came out to bat.  In the end we lost 22-21 by a heart-breaking single run. The boys were understandably gutted, but I don't think I have ever been prouder and more excited as a teacher and coach!

These amazing boys are officially State Champion silver medallists and should be so very proud of themselves!

Thank you so much to the parents who ferried the boys to all the games from District to Division, Regional and State Finals and the extended families that came to cheer us on.
