Year Two

Dear Saltwater Families,

We are so close to the end of school! The Year Two students have been working super hard to finish off strong with lots and lots of NAPLAN practise.

Reading:

In Reading, students have continued to focus on NAPLAN preparation. Students have been using comprehension strategies such as; questions within, beyond and about the texts. Students have also been reading both non fiction and fiction texts and practising how each of these texts have different features.

Writing:

Students have continued preparing for NAPLAN in writing. To help students prepare for the writing section of the NAPLAN exam, they have been practising working under test conditions and writing stamina. In addition to writing informational, persuasive texts, procedural, recount, and poetic texts, they have been practising creating narratives using picture and video prompts.  Students are becoming more and more confident to participate in NAPLAN early next year.

Maths:

In Mathematics, students have been exploring fractions including halves, quarters, fifths, thirds and eighths. They have been able to not just identify fractions of shape but also fractions of a collection (for example half of a group of students). They have then been applying this knowledge to solve problems that involve fractions. This is a great topic to discuss at home as we encounter fractions often in our daily lives doing things like cooking (especially baking) and when telling the time.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, students have been researching different celebrations that they have not personally experienced. Students have created presentations to share with the class about their chosen celebration. This has been a great opportunity for all students to discover and learn about different cultures and celebrations around the world and reflect on why their own celebrations are important to them.

Christmas Carol practice:

Students have been getting active and festive whilst practising their Christmas Carol performances!

Carols occur on the following dates:

Timetable A and Secondary: Wednesday 13th December, 5:30 – 7:30

Timetable B: Thursday 14th December, 5:30 – 7:30
