Media

Preps: Using episodes of "Bluey" as a mentor text, students are identifying the different features of a narrative. We have recently explored location/setting and problems/solutions.

Year One: To wrap up our unit exploring historical cultural stories, the year one students are watching Disney's Hercules. Students have enjoyed recognising the characters they have previously learned about appearing on the screen, such as Zeus and Hades.

Year Two: To wrap up our classes, our students have been completing their radio ads. Working in pairs, students completed a script and recorded their voices with the teacher. As we complete this unit, students will share their published pieces with one another.

Year Three: As we wrap up our unit on still-image narratives, students have gone out into the yard with their iPads to create a story of a student facing their fear by going down a slide. It has been great to see students utilising the shot types they have previously learned earlier in the year.

Year Four: As we have continued analysing the children's TV show, Thalu, students have been exploring what representation is and why representation in media is important.

Year Five: Year Five students have been tucked away in the editing room, shaping their short film footage into a cohesive piece. Students are focusing on action, sequencing, and audio.

Year Six: Following our final line of inquiry, “The meaning of artifacts, heirlooms and traditions”, students are sharing what traditions are important to them and explaining those traditions through written and audio-visual means.

Physical Education

As we move towards the end of the year, we have continued our Baseball Clinics with Baseball Victoria. We have been extremely lucky to have these clinics come to our school and it is very pleasing to see all students engaged and having fun in learning the game of baseball.

Throughout the remainder of term 4 we are having a celebration of our learning with the students choosing our final activities that we will be participating in for our lessons.

Thank you to all students for an extremely successful year of sport.

A reminder to bring your hats and drink bottles as the hot weather sets in.

Music

As we approach the end of the year, our third group of Prep to Grade 6 children are putting their newly acquired knowledge and skills to use in various musical activities.

In Grade Prep, the students are enthusiastically singing and playing percussion instruments along with the songs they have learned together. This not only helps them practice their musical skills but also allows them to experience the joy of making music together.

In Grades 1 and 2, the students are working cooperatively to create simple rhythmic pieces. They are actively involved in composing and then performing these pieces to their classes. This collaborative effort encourages teamwork and boosts their confidence in sharing their musical creations.

Moving on to Grades 3 and 4, the students are exploring the world of music creation by making their own compositions using both tuned and untuned percussion instruments. By blending melodic patterns and rhythmic grooves, they are able to produce a rich and layered sound. In this small group setting, the musicians have the opportunity to intricately interact with one another, collaborating to bring their individual sounds together into a unified composition.

In Grades 5 and 6, the students have been using the GarageBand application to dive deeper into music composition. This digital tool allows them to experiment with different musical ideas, melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. By providing a platform for their artistic development, GarageBand offers these young students a valuable academic experience. Through their exploration, they not only foster creativity and musical understanding but also develop technological literacy, collaboration skills, and personal growth.

Overall, the music program strives to offer a range of engaging activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our students, promoting their musical development and academic growth.

DANCE.

As we come to the end of the year it's still all go in the dance studio with everyone coming in to work on their Christmas carols ready to perform next week! Students have been practising their routines in their combined classes ready for the big outdoor end of year celebrations in front of family and friends. Teachers have also helped in the creative process with ideas and steps to incorporate in their dance which has made it more fun and inclusive for everyone!

The Year 6 Graduation ceremony on Thursday night was a huge success for everyone involved, and all the various students performances were amazing! Everyone showcased their skills as they performed in front of family and friends making everyone proud along the way.

The students who represented our school and the Saltwater community that performed at the Victorian State School Spectacular this year, started the dancing off for the night. They performed a medley of songs and routines that were in used in VSSS 2023 along with new additional choreography added to their routine. This was also accompanied with footage on the big screens during their performance of their journey this year. Video footage and photos of rehearsals, dress rehearsals, behind the scene work, and various different aspects of it all. Our students once again set the bar high this year and represented us proudly throughout. Congratulations again to all involved on another great year in VSSS, well done!

The Year 6 students who danced in the end of year group performance then took it up another level with an amazing performance, enriched with a powerful and positive message. This was kickstarted with a beautiful deep heartfelt poem written and performed by one of our own dance extension and VSSS dancers Chrisma Adjetey. Her words both written and spoken resonated with everyone in the building, as she took us on her journey this year and left such a powerful message and impression on all who witnessed it. She then led the way as the rest of the dancers graced the stage to perform for our end of year graduation dance. Students involved were left uplifted and open minded to the message in the routine and how it applies to them and their journey ahead.

Everyone worked so hard and I am proud of each and every one of them for all they have achieved both on stage and off. Congratulations again to all and wishing you the absolute very best for what's yet to come!
