LIBRARY NEWS
Students settled into the rhythm of Library class this week, guided by myself. In future weeks I will help the Foundation and Grade 1 students during class time. Book Fair Week and Book Week will be the exceptions. To contact me, email the school or visit before or after school.
Please remember your waterproof Library bags (red bag, pencil case or shopping bag) each week so that you can borrow to take home. It is an important aspect of Library class to learn to browse and select books to read. For those enthusiastic readers who say they have enough to read at home, it is also a chance to show your fellow students by action how much of an exciting adventure reading can be.
This year beginning in March, I will run the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge at school for the Foundation to Year 2 students. Families are welcome to add to lists of Books read at home too. Grade 3 to 6 students will be able to register and complete the Challenge at home. I know some students have already started recording their books read, because the list of books can begin from the start of Term 1.
We will join hundreds of thousands of children and adults on May 21st for National Simultaneous Storytime, when as a school we will read “My truck cat”.
The Library Book Fair will begin on May 26th and Book Week will be celebrated in the week beginning August 18th.
A thank you to parents and carers who will volunteer this year to help with Scholastic Book Club. The first issue will go out this Friday February 7th. Look out for an email from Megan for more information.
A quick note that overdue notices will make a regular appearance in parent/carer emails this term as I look to solve the problem of returning books on time. Last year’s experiment of no emails did not work!
Happy reading!
