Year 7 Technologies

This semester, our Year 7 students have started lessons in Food Technology. The focus has been on building foundational skills, ensuring safety, and learning the importance of hygiene, whilst having fun with food.

Our budding chefs began with the essentials - safety and hygiene. From understanding the importance of washing hands and cleaning surfaces to the proper use of kitchen tools, students have grasped the critical aspects of maintaining a safe and clean cooking environment.

With safety as our priority, students then dived into mastering knife skills. They learned the proper way to hold and use a knife, emphasising the importance of technique and control. These skills were put to the test as they prepared fairy bread and sweet potato fries that allowed them to practise cutting with precision and care.

It's been a fantastic start to the semester, and we’re excited to see our students continue to develop their cooking skills.

Parliament Visit - 9/10 Legal Studies and Business

Recently, as part of their study on Australia’s Democracy, the Year 9/10 Legal Studies and Business classes visited Tasmanian Parliament.

The two classes learnt all about how the Parliament works, with one group given the opportunity to discuss some issues and vote as if they were members of Parliament on many issues, including whether Social Media should be banned for anyone under the age of 18. While in the Legislative Council the students were visited by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Hon Michelle O’Byrne and the President of the Legislative Council, the Hon Craig Farrell and the Ambassador of Finland, His Excellency, Mr Arto Haapea, all of which offered some great advice to the students.

The second class visited on a sitting day, which meant they got to witness the Tasmanian Parliament in action, debating a matter of public importance about the behaviour of the Parliament. The students were introduced by the Speaker and were even mentioned by some members speaking in the Parliament.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) at Mount Carmel

At Mount Carmel College  we are excited to offer our Year 10 students the opportunity to participate in VET courses, providing them with practical skills and knowledge. VET courses are designed to ensure that our students gain the hands-on experience and technical skills needed for success in a wide range of careers.

This year, Mount Carmel  is proud to offer three VET classes. On our campus, students can choose to study Child Care or Hospitality, gaining practical experience in these industries. Additionally, a group of our girls have the  opportunity to study VET Construction at the Guilford Young College  campus. The photo gallery showcases the incredible work our students have been doing in their VET courses.
