Kids Corner

The Kids Corner section of this fortnight’s newsletter features some narratives written by Kimaya and Adrisha (both in Year 5). I am most impressed with the children’s writing as pieces as they have used figurative and descriptive language techniques exceptionally well to ensure the reader is able to visualise what they have written and become immersed in the piece. Well done Adrisha and Kimaya as you should be very proud of how much your writing skills have improved.

The Dream in the Sky by Adrisha:

My jaws dropped to the floor. As I saw an explosion of vibrant coloured hot air balloons. Rachel, Chloe, and I stared in amazement; a whole city was filled with hot air balloons. It created such a vivid sight with the sapphire blue, ruby red, lemon yellow, orange, and purple balloons floating up in the air. I jumped in without hesitation; Chloe and Rachel jumped in after me. As we landed, we felt a cool breeze of air. We all stared at the picturesque scenery. I gazed across the whole area; my heart fluttered with excitement. My joy rushed through my body. The expressions on Chloe’s and Rachel’s faces could tell me they were feeling the exact same way. Soon enough, we were soaring through the sky. The sun was setting, creating a beautiful sunset. I loved how the colours blended into each other and made an elegant horizon.

We were flying through the sky, and we saw other gentle people floating in their own hot air balloons, their smiles as radiant as the colours around us. Each balloon was drifting peacefully in the crisp evening air. The sun continued to descend, painting the sky in different shades of pink, orange, and purple. It had bewildering beauty, with colours blending into one another. I felt as though we were gliding through a dream. As our balloon floated higher and higher, we began to see the city below. The streets, once bustling and filled with the noise of daily life, now looked like a quaint old village, with nearly everyone filling the sky with their intricate designed balloons, creating a glorious scene.

Chloe, Rachel, and I took in every moment. We could hear the people’s laughter and joy all around us. It was like the whole universe was taking its time, making every moment count. The cool breeze was refreshing, and we could smell the faint hint of flowers from a nearby park, carried up by the wind. It was as if nature itself was with us. As the sun finally vanished below the horizon, the stars began to twinkle. People started getting down. The city lights started to sparkle below, and we felt like we were floating among the stars, it was like we were a part of the enchanting universe.

We knew this moment would stay with us forever, a perfect memory of friendship. I felt a little despair because I had to leave, but I swear that I will never forget this magical day. I thank the hot air balloon service for this miraculous day. I thought one little box took us on an adventure we will never we will never forget.

Moral: "Sometimes the smallest things lead to the most unforgettable adventures."

An Adventure of a Lifetime! By Kimaya:

As I walked in, my jaw fell to my knees. I gasped. Were my eyes tricking me? A white gleaming crown shone as bright as the morning sun. I clutched the crown in my hands. I felt a tug on my shirt. I looked down. We were flying!

The world swirled around me. I seized Vicky’s hand. We were pulled through a void.  I breathed deeply. Everything was going to be alright. I could see different cities. I felt that I was going down. I screamed! We were going to die!

I closed my eyes, but I felt a soft landing when I touched the ground. The ground was soft and it was covered with radiant coloured flowers. I saw Vicky and ran over to her “Do you know what just happened?” I asked. Vicky shrugged. My ears were filled with calming music from what I could see, was the waterfall ahead. I could smell lavender and lilac flowers. There were singing butterflies and dancing swans. I smiled; I had never seen this type of beauty before. Vicky and I played together in the Autumn leaves.

After a while we started missing home. I told Vicky. She agreed with me. We didn’t know how to get back home. We were hungry and tired. We saw two snails holding the same crowns we used to get here on their shells. I made a lunge for it. The snail was too slow, so I caught it before it could wriggle away. I gave Vicky her crown. We placed it on our heads at the same time and felt the same tug like before.

We landed with a small thud on the ground. I smiled at Vicky. We walked back home and sneaked back into Vicky’s room. We talked about our adventures. We were very happy.
