College Ball

What a wonderful night under the stars! The room decorations sparkled and shone like the Milky Way, a stunning reflection of the time and effort Mrs Hickman and Mrs Fimmano had put into them.

The stars of the evening certainly arrived in style, with a myriad of cars and vehicles dropping off students and their partners. It was an honour to welcome them all in their wide range of colourful suits and dresses for this gala night. I was very impressed with the number of ties that matched the dresses—some careful planning was evident.

A big thank you to all the staff who gave up their Friday night to come along and support the students on the night.

Special thanks also to DJ Tony on the night, who made sure all the tunes kept many students (and some staff) up on the dance floor having a great time. I think the social media photos show that everyone had a great night.

Driving Around the College

One area of operations that has started to become a concern to me is the speed of drivers along the entrance road to the College. The limit along this road is 20kph as many staff, students and livestock walk along and across it, as they move around the College. I am asking all students, staff and parents to exercise due care and attention to ensure they are aware of this speed limit so that we can ensure the safety of everyone on the site. If we continue to witness and receive reports of vehicles exceeding this limit, we may have to look at extending our traffic calming measures.

Piggery

I had the great pleasure of being inducted into our new pig enterprise earlier this week and would like to acknowledge the great work undertaken by Mr Steve Smart and the students in getting the facilities clean and ready to receive the first 80 weaner pigs.

These have been sourced from Westpork after some great work by our Ag Advisory Chair, Mr Graeme Moore and Farm Manager Tony Abel. They put together a compelling submission and presented it to Westpork as a way to enhance student skills and prepare students for employment in the pork industry.

The strict biosecurity controls and QA requirements of this addition to our enterprise will certainly enhance student knowledge and industry preparedness. All staff and students have now been inducted into these biosecurity requirements to ensure we fulfill the requirements of our commercial partner.

Muresk/Dowerin Excursion

Mr Pfitzner and Mr Dyson have been very busy planning and finalising the annual Muresk/Dowerin excursion for the Year 11s.  We wish all the staff and students a safe journey  as they venture far and wide to give students an insight to the wider opportunities available in Agriculture and Trades.  Students will then attend Dowerin Field Day on Wednesday before the big trip home.
