Principal's Update
Parental Curriculum Contributions for 2025:
A heartfelt thanks to the many families who paid and are still paying voluntary curriculum contributions in 2024. It was recently agreed to not increase the small amount we request for voluntary contributions for 2025. This is the 2nd year in a row we have opted to maintain this amount rather than increase it. We consider this contribution towards the cost of education a moderate and vital investment in your child’s learning and providing them with the highest standards of learning. Whilst we get government funding for a standard (average) curriculum, this only provides for basic standard materials, resources and equipment for our students. We sincerely hope that we could do better than that for our students, but this will only be possible with the support of our close community. Please support the school and your child/ren by paying this voluntary contribution in 2025.
Thanking you in advance.
Please also consider a donation to the Library Fund and the Building Fund - they are both tax deductible. It is a great boost to our school.
State Athletics:
On Wednesday 6th November we took 23 Grade 5 /6 students to Albert Park for the State Primary School Athletics Carnival to watch LOCKLIN!
Clare drove the bus with Ben supervising our students. Our students were all very well behaved even though it was hot!
Congratulations to Locklin who made it into the finals of both the100m and the 200m races. His final results were:
-6th in the 100m final
-8th in the 200m final
We are so proud of your achievements Locklin - it was fantastic to be able to watch one of our WMPS students compete at that high level.
All our other students and staff were live streaming the races from school.
OH and S Audit: Our Occupational Health and Safety Audit was conducted over 7 hours on Thursday last week.
Many thanks to all our staff for ensuring our areas were all well maintained - special thanks to Mandy and Clare for their hard work. Also, congratulations to Jen Coles - our canteen looked fantastic and the staff from Ernst and Young commented on this. They also complimented us on how safe our school is!
Camp
Just a final reminder about how important it is for your child to attend camp. The opportunity to spend 2 nights away from home learning resilience and how to overcome challenges while cementing firm friendships is a vital part of growing up!
At Graduation - students always comment on the amazing experiences they had at camp. It is a highlight of their primary school days.
If your child is not attending camp - they are expected to be at school.
Swimming
Please enrol your child in our swimming program - we need every child to be as "waterproof" as possible for summer. With a combination of grants and other support we have managed to get the swimming fees for 2 weeks down to $120 which you would not be able to find elsewhere. Students also enjoy going on the bus and being responsible for their belongings.
Students not attending swimming will be at school completing a water safety unit.
Sleep
Did you know that your child should be getting between 10 and 12 hours sleep a night?
Kids Health recommends having a consistent bedtime routine and turn screens off at least an hour before bed. As we approach the busy festive season you can help you child by ensuring they get enough sleep.
This will help with their school work, their moods and their general health and well being.
Bike Riding
We always encourage students to be active, bike riding or walking to school is a great way to get fit!
Please remember that bikes MUST BE WALKED ONCE IN THE SCHOOL GATES - NO RIDING.
In a world where we can be anything - be kind.
