Y8 Italian Excursion

Mr Joe Sirianni

"On Friday, 2 August, the Year 8 Italian classes went on an excursion to the Museo Italiano, which is a museum in Carlton. We had two different activities to do; one was an outside activity, and one was an inside activity.

We were divided into two groups, and my group did the outside activity first. We received a booklet and had to answer the questions in Italian. We also had to follow a map to find certain places. I enjoyed this activity so much because it was fun to see how everyone was trying to find the right way. Even if some students might have gone the wrong way, we were able to get them back and help them find the right building. It was a fun activity because everyone was working at their own pace, and we experienced so many fun things that we can now look back on. The inside activity was also about answering questions, and it was tricky to answer most of them, but we all worked together and helped each other out.

It was such an effective way to cooperate with our classmates, and in the end, after both groups had done both activities, we went to Brunetti Classico. It is like a big restaurant with both sweet and savoury dishes, and next to it is an ice cream store where we can eat and sit. It was a wonderful way to end the excursion. We made so many sweet memories, and it was such a good experience."

"On Friday, 2 August, the two Year 8 Italian classes went to Little Italy, located in Carlton along Lygon Street. It was a nice sunny day, which helped us navigate the early morning hustle in the city. We started off walking around Little Italy, seeing many famous Italian shops, like Coffee Machine Technologies or University Café, which had Victoria’s first-ever cappuccino machine. Next, we visited Museo Italiano, a small Italian Museum on Faraday Street. The museum had many references to Italians and how they got to Australia, including a very extensive timeline showing World, Italian and Australian-Italian history.

After finishing at the Museum both Italian classes headed to Brunetti Classico, an Italian café, bakery, gelateria and pizzeria which sold exquisite Italian food. There were many selections of food to choose from, like woodfire pizza to mint-choc chip gelato. After having a nice lunch at Brunetti’s, we said goodbye to Little Italy and returned to St John’s just before the bell rang. We all had a good day and wished we could visit again."
