School News

12th August 2024    Liam

This week’s Superhero demonstrates the values of excellence, pride and respect; however, he strives to uphold all of our school values every day.

Liam displays respect through a collaborative disposition. Actively listening and making meaningful contributions to class discussions, he consistently acknowledges the ideas of others and engages in feedback exchanges with positivity. He asks pertinent questions and shares understandings which advance classroom learning. Liam also silently sneaks forward during class to seek clarification when needed, with this often reminding his teacher of an instruction that was forgotten, or to ensure directions are clear.

Liam demonstrates excellence by consistently trying his best. His determination is particularly evident in Mathematics and Reading, where they approach each task with focus and perseverance. In Writing, he shows grit by working hard each day to improve his craft.

A proud member of KPS’s Athletic, Softball and Tennis teams, and a well-respected member of Chess Club, Liam never seeks to be the centre of attention. However, today we must shine the spotlight on this student from Studio 11 whose excellence, pride and respect make him a true KPS Superhero.

Congratulations Liam, we hope you had a fantastic week.

19th August 2024    Niel

This week, Niel is being recognised for his persistence, respect and care, qualities he consistently demonstrates both in and out of the classroom. He is positive and friendly, displaying enthusiasm and a genuine interest in all school activities. Niel greets his teachers each day with a smile and a warm hello and are always polite and well-mannered.

Niel consistently shows persistence in everything he does, always striving to achieve his best. He takes on feedback, applying it effectively to his work, and is making great progress. His love for school and learning makes him a pleasure to teach.

Numerous times, Niel's teacher has received feedback about the care and kindness he shows towards others in the yard, something his teacher also observes regularly. This Grade 4 student treats others with fairness, offering help when needed, whether it’s picking someone up if they fall or allowing others to tag him during a game. He is truly kind and caring.

Niel coped with a huge change this year, not only moving to a new school but also to a new country. He has joined the KPS community and has fit into the grade 3/4 unit with ease. Congratulations to this week’s superhero whose persistence, respect and caring nature make him a deserving superhero.

Congratulations Niel, we hope you had a fantastic week.

Book Week

This year for book week we supported the 'World Literacy Foundation' through our book week events. We raised funds to increase literature access to children in populations with high rates of illiteracy. The money donated to the 'World Literacy Foundation' during Book Week will assist to build five libraries in Ugandan primary schools with access to over 2,500 books.

Book Drive

Students were asked to bring in unused books from home to donate for our book drive. Members of our Student Council held a stall at recess each day this week to sell the donated books to students for between 50c and $4. Thank you to everyone who donated books.

Over the week we raised a total of $431.65 at our book stall. Wow!

Book Character Dress Up Day

Today we had our book character dress up day. Students were invited to dress up as a book character and bring along a gold coin donation. We held a parade on the basketball courts and Student Council members decided on the finalists for each unit. Winners will be announced at assembly on Monday. There were so many amazing costumes.

Funds raised for dress day totalled $212.00.

Student Free Day in Term 3

We will have a student free day on Friday 30th August. No students are required at school on this day. Staff will be using this day to participate in professional learning.

Urgent Canteen Help Required

Thursdays and Fridays are by far the busiest canteen days and to ensure our students can get their lunch on time we reply heavily on our amazing volunteers. It also helps create a great school community. Many of our long term Volunteers are no longer able to help.

You can become a regular volunteer or just help out just once. Every bit helps. I have created a sign up sheet which makes it really easy for you to see what days and times we need volunteers.

If you can help please sign up here volunteersignup.org/JX3YF

Volunteers will need to have a valid Working with Childrens Check and complete a quick OHS induction at the office. If you only have an hour free on a Thursday or Friday contact me directly with what day you can help. The children at KPS always love seeing Parents, Grandparents or Older Sibling helping. It also helps create a great school community.

Cheers

Disco and Trivia Success

What a night! The Disco this year was a huge success! We had hundreds of kids through the doors and they danced, laughed, and gossiped the night away! Thank you all for such brilliant song requests, stellar behaviour, and for bringing energy and fun to the event.

Many thanks to the Parents and Friends volunteers for putting on the night. It is a huge effort and a lot of work goes into making these experiences memorable and fun for the kids.

Also a quick Trivia report - we managed to raise almost $4000 for the school. A terrific result. A fun night was had by all and a huge thank you to Adrian for running the night.

To get involved with the Parents and Friends and to help with upcoming events, please email kpspnf@gmail.com - we would love to hear from you. Please let us know if you would like to be added to the Whatsapp group used to help organise such events. A great and very non-committal way to help out and also meet other parents at the school.

Many thanks,

Alwyn (on behalf of the KPS Parents and Friends)

2025 Prep Enrolments

As recommended in the Department of Education Prep enrolment timeline, 2025 Prep enrolments should now be submitted. If you have a child enrolling at KPS in 2025 and would like an enrolment pack please drop into the office or we can send one home with their older sibling.

Our Prep transition program will commence in Term 4.

Volunteers at KPS

It is great to see so many family volunteers helping out in various ways here at school.

Department of Education policy requires all volunteers at KPS to complete an induction prior to coming onsite. This also includes excursion volunteers. This includes having a current Working With Children's Check (WWCC), completing a confidentiality document and OHS induction. For volunteers that are not parents of current students we also need emergency contact details. Applying for a Working With Children's Check is free for volunteers and can be completed online at

https://service.vic.gov.au/services/working-with-children

This documentation is available at the office and only take 5-10 minutes to complete. Once inducted volunteers can sign in and out at the office kiosk each time they visit.

Thank you for your assistance with this.

School Gates and Opening Times

In the morning all gates will be open for access to the school site at 8:45 as this is when under industrial arrangements staff supervision in the yard commences. No students are allowed onsite until this time.

In the afternoon all gates will be open at 3:15 for access to the school site. Access to the office during the school day is via the pedestrian gate on Edgecombe St.

The new ramp/path between the school and the kindergarten is now operational. Access to the school grounds using the ramp is between the hours of 8:45 – 4.00. On either side of these hours, the bottom of the ramp will be chained off. Access outside of these hours needs to be arranged through the school office or a staff member by calling 5422 1855.

A reminder to all members of the school community the staff car park is not to be used to walk between the school and the kindergarten for safety reasons. Now that the ramp/path is operational the pedestrian gate next to the car park gates should be used following the path, crossing the road in front of the boom gate using the marked pedestrian crossing and then down the ramp.

* Please do not access the school site at any time via the staff car park for safety

 reasons.

* Please do not park in the kinder carpark unless it is your kinder day and you are a kinder family.

Uniform Ordering

School uniforms are available for purchase online direct from A Plus Schoolwear  www.aplusschoolwear.com.au

When ordering uniforms please put the studio number of your child for easier delivery.

Once uniforms arrive at school, they will be sent home with your child.

Contact Details

There are times when we will need to contact you during a school day. It is important we have your most up to date contact details on file.

Please update these on Compass or email the school at kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details.

Student Attendance

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by logging your child’s absence using our school’s Parental Portal in Compass.

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained. It is a DET requirement that we have a reason for each child's absence.

This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.

The Kyneton Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available on our website www.kynetonprimaryschool.com.au

Students Arriving Late

Students arriving late to school should come to the office, accompanied by an adult, and sign in either on the Compass Kiosk or in the late book.  They will then be issued a late pass to take to class and their arrival at school will be updated on the roll.  This will avoid parents/guardians receiving notification that their child is not at school when they have arrived late.

Accessing Compass

Compass is our main way of communicating with our families. It is important that parents access the Parental Portal in Compass at https://kynetonps.vic.jdlf.com.au

Using our parent portal will enable you to –

  • View up-to-date class and school attendance information
  • Approve or enter upcoming or past absences for your son/daughter
  • Update your registered email and mobile number (used for SMS alters)
  • Access information regarding upcoming events and news
  • Access your child’s Semester Reports
  • Book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences

We encourage families to download the Compass App and to enable notification to ensure you receive all communications.

Please click on the “Welcome to Compass” booklets for further assistance or contact the office.
