"Go forth and set the world on fire"
St Ignatius of Loyola
This week we began our Assembly with a Book Week Prayer. Some of our Year 5/6 Students wrote a prayer for this celebration.
For the places they show us, and the people we meet,
We thank you, God, for Books
For fascinating facts and interesting information,
We thank you, God, for Books
For creepy tales and funny stories,
We thank you, God, for Books
For helping me to learn, giving me wisdom & knowledge,
We thank you, God, for Books
For illustrations and cartoons,
We thank you, God, for Books
For things to do on a rainy or sunny day,
We thank you, God, for Books
For all the titles I've yet to read,
We thank you, God, for Books
For all ways and places to read and stay calm,
We thank you, God, for Books
For the wise words, and rhymes
We thank you, God, for Books
For the education they provide
We thank you, God, for Books
May we grow in our love of reading & learning. Help us Lord to grow in knowledge, wonder, curiosity and understanding.
Amen
Last week, we proudly commissioned and presented our Year 6 Leaders with their leadership badges during our Mass of Compassion. Congratulations to all our student leaders!
At St. Mel’s, leadership roles for our Year 6 students are a natural progression of the skills and values they’ve cultivated throughout their learning journey. Through our Learning Assets, students have developed a personal toolkit that empowers them to be self-managers, collaborators, researchers, thinkers, and communicators. These essential skills will guide them as they take on their leadership roles within our school community.
Our leadership program serves as a crucial stepping stone toward greater independence in their lifelong learning journey. This year, we’ve witnessed remarkable growth in our leaders, particularly in their confidence, independence, courage, and initiative. We are excited to continue supporting our Year 6 leaders as they further develop and excel in their roles throughout the remainder of the year.

Our recent Mass of Compassion was a heartwarming whole-school event where we came together to celebrate & pray for those in our community who embody the spirit of care and compassion, just as Jesus did.
We extend our gratitude to Fr. Ruel for leading our celebration. His message to our students, staff, and families was both inspiring and reflective, encouraging us to recognise and share our unique gifts and talents. Fr. Ruel highlighted that these gifts are:
This celebration also invites us to reflect: What are your gifts and talents? What about your child's? How do you share them?
Stay tuned for a CRAZY Hair Day this term that our Year 6 Social Justice Team has begun to organise to raise much-needed funds for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Open our HEARTS up to the world & be COMPASSIONATE!
